Timing belt question/worry

Post by SubiePrice88 »

So my car has 200k miles on it now and Im planning on doing the maintance as soon as I get the money. The owner before me had driven the car pretty hard. Ive only used it as a DD and a couple Rally crosses and kept up on oil changes and such.

I was just wondering if I should worry about the timing belt breaking. Im thinking about driving it from Spokane to Seattle (about 600 miles round trip)... would it still be safe?

Timing belts is an area I dont know much about.

-Thanks

Well it's not a risk since the engine is non interference the real risk is having to pay to tow it then get it fixed whereever it is. The previous owner never replaced it? they are due usually ever 100k miles I have heard some people push 130-150k miles before replacing it with no issues.

100miles, my haynes says 60,000miles or 100,000 km.

it's not as hard as it sounds to do the belt, it's only single overhead cam, non interference. which means if the belt goes then you should'nt have any engine damage.

The belt is only around 60$
but you may want to do your

oil pump and oem seals
waterpump
bearings
tensioner
and maybe your cam and crank seals.
timing belt cover gasket

just be sure to use oem seals or you will be leaking in no time. also your suppose to use a special subaru gasket shit that needs 24 hours to cure on the oil pump

well from the records I got with the car the only paper work showing the timing belt being replaced was at 82K... so if thats true, its been awhile.
