Intermittent CEL on hybrid EJ25/EJ22T setup using EJ22T ECU

Hello! Lately I've been getting a CEL that will come on within minutes of turning on the car and will usually only last 45 seconds to a minute. Sometimes it takes longer than a few minutes to turn on but it never lasts longer than a minute. I am using an EJ22T OBD1 ECU to run an EJ25 block with EJ22T crank/rods and a VF8. Is there a way to check what the code is after the light turns off?

I plugged in the gray and black connectors, then turned my car to the on setting and all I heard were the fans cycling and this strange clicking sound coming from the engine compartment. The CEL just stayed on the whole time. This is not what is supposed to happen according to the instructions.

You did it wrong.
black to black, green to green, play with gas pedal, start the car read it over.
if you just want stored codes, only hook up black to black and turn the ignition on, not the motor, the codes will flash

Hm. I never saw a black to black option. Only black to gray and green to green. But my wiring harness has been merged with an EJ25 harness and the plugs were relocated to the passenger floorboard near the ECU. Its possible there is another set of plugs hiding under the dash where they should be. I'll give it another go.

^ Yeah, green-green & black-gray. Mine aren't under the dash due to the ECU rewire. I'll take a pic of mine and see what you guys have to say. From my memory, it looked like one of the wires was cut. I didn't do the wiring, so I'm really not sure. Thanks for being helpful, I'll get a pic up when I get back to my car this weekend.

All you're really doing when you connect that black plug is grounding it out to the ECU, which triggers the codes to flash. If you don't have the other end of the plug, then I'd ground it out to somewhere else on the car.
If you look at the FSM the lead from the ECU for the trouble code output (black wire) just goes to a ground.
