I love my SS because:
-It is the perfect blend of performance and practicality
-It is unpretentious and unassuming
-It has history, heritage and character
-It is a simple car-easy to modify and maintain
-The camaraderie of the Subaru community
...and above all else it is simply a joy to drive. It's not that fast, it doesn't handle that well, the interior is plastic fantastic but I love it. Not many things bring me greater pleasure then taking a drive in my Legacy.

'06 Impreza 2.5i wagon
I got one because they are a great stock platform to build up from, plus they are WAY cheaper than an 05'+ that's Turboed, and WAY cheaper than Turboing a NA 98' 2.5GT legacy...trust me on that one. Also, I'll never feel bad about flogging a car this old down gravel roads, mud, snow and just generally beating on it.
92' SS: SOLD
98' 2.5GT SOLD, bought back, new stupid build in the works.

1. Usable, real, fold down back seat compared to Imprezas.
2. Dirt cheap for basically the same platform as '93-'07 Imprezas and Legacies up to '99.
3. Good looks on the post-facelift sedans. (IMO, of course)
4. 80%+ go-fast parts interchangablity with all the best Subarus.
5. Basically the same weight as a GD/GG.
6. At this point in time, I believe well cared for turbo SSs/TWs won't lose any more value.
Don't care much for BF wagons. They don't look proportional to me. BGs look much better in wagon form.

1. Its got history to it.
2. Its an oldschool turbo charged and AWD car
3. Definitely unassuming like Subaru_Nation mentioned, to everyone who doesn't know they just look like a nissan maxima or something.

great car for its time period
like others have stated has heritage-RALLY
disk brakes all around
my car has 244XXX miles on it and it still hasnt let me down
gave me my first love of a Subaru
most of the people that own these arent douche bags and are respectable people versus some of the newer generation of Subaru buyers (WRX crowd)
the newer legacy(2005+) is an awesome car in its own right. almost 15+ years newer. still has AWD and turbo and disk brakes all around. but i think the newer ones are kind of luxury with some power to kick your ass if your not careful
its like the commercials say that Subaru is love or something like that.

-Awesome chassis durability
-Awesome reliability
-Even the turbo is easy to work on!
-Turbo's low-end torque makes you smile when you push the gas pedal
-Wagon's awesome suspension and cavernous cargo bay makes you wonder why the hell we have car-based, "soft-road" SUVs that weigh 4500lbs and get terrible gas mileage.
I prefer the BC/BJ, but I'd also buy an early BD/BG (before they started festooning them with frivolous turbo dress-up).
If I ever move up the economic food chain, I'll probably treat myself to a Baja (would MUCH prefer a Brat but those are just getting rarer and rarer, and rustier and rustier). Not much other interest in the newer cars.

My girlfriend was embaressed to drive my 90 legacy NA wagon when I first bought it but she quickly grew to love it as I did but more than her. It was such a comfortable car. The suspension was great, almost too good because it would put me to sleep driving it.
I own a 91 SS but I have yet to be able to get a running motor in it so I haven't got a taste of the turbo version of these motors but someday I will.
Subarus are great. I haven't thought about my wagon in a while but now that I am I miss it a lot.

1. easy to work on, and upgrade
2. decently fast, for very little input $$
3. it's not a WRX, so it sets you apart from the ("ZOMG!?!? STI!?!?") Crowd
4. heritage, and it's WAY underestimated in terms of it's potential.
5. It's not an enormous sedan/wagon like the newer versions. i dont know if anyone has recognized this before but when i park mine next to a newer outback... the size difference is astounding.

Last week, I was laughed at and questioned by some know-it-all young snots why I "riced out" my car by putting a Subaru hood scoop on it. When I attempted to explain that it is, in fact, a Subaru and why thier '06 WRX would not have existed if not for the forward thinking of my '93 SS they were completely ignorant and perfectly happy with thier attempts at degredation.
As much as I hate to admit it, the WRX IS the new Civic Si. Bummer.

I hate it.
Punk asses should go back to buying hondas,
subaru has culture and i guess no matter which car "group" you associate yourself w/ you will always have the D bags.. which sucks.
except w/ legacy owners.. i'm noticing at least. either they drive a leg because they know about it (us) or they are just car owners and dont know what they are driving. this is obviously less of the case w/ imprezas.
i have never really met a D-Bag legacy driver, except when i was out of town one time getting gas and there was this guy with a legacy Spec-B. I tried talking to him and he barely recognized me. That was the only one, and Spec-B's aren't even that great either
