Hi guys and girls! A friend and I are going to be picking up a 91' Legacy Turbo Sedan tonight or tomorrow for a "project" car. The plan is to basicly turn it into a rallyX warrior. Just wanted to introduce myself to the forums because I know I will be on here a lot after we get this car. I am not new to the Subaru sceen, I have a 05' WRX wagon that I built a hybrid motor for. EJ20 heads that had some work done to them, v7 STi cams, EJ257 block/crank/rods with JE pistons Cosworth Main bearings, and ACL Rod bearings. Put a vf34 on it for the street and called it a day! I am a newbie to the Legacy's though so this should be a interesting build.

Hey this is Nick, also new to the forum and Co-owner of a new to us 91 legacy turbo. Ryan pretty much explained it all, I have an 02 wagon that is going through an engine upgrade at the moment and the legacy will be a nice dirt toy.

Welcome to both of you.

I'd say leave the Legacy stock if you're going to rallyX it, just fix it up and get it running good.

Since it has a small turbo, low boost, and no IC, it boost quickly and down low in the rev range. Perfect for tight rallyX courses.

Problem is, is that the the vf11 is shot on this thing. We have a td04 laying around thats practically new that we are going to slap on along with a tmic. Spool on the tdo4 should be to bad on the 2.2l.

You wouldn't have noticed a difference in spool from the vf11 had it been working. You may get a couple more hp out of the td04.

Well if you did all that the legacy engine should be a breeze. It's pretty much the same thing. Welcome and good luck!

Yeah stuff is pretty similar to the newer cars. I like how Subarus are like lego blocks! A lot of the parts we have laying around will swap right into this thing. Free upgrades are uber sweet! The only thing that makes my head spin on these things is engine management. I understand the newer cars, but not these things! Well, I take that back. I know what it takes to make changes on OBD1 cars, but I just do not have the knowledge or will power to do so.
