What do you mean "order"? Are you talking about buying a new car?
If your goal is a car to "strip down and beef up and make an autocross/track car", then I would start with an
Impreza
.
Now, if your talking about a mostly street car that occasionally gets taken to the track.....Bring on the Legacies. '91-'94 SS, '96-'99 GT, '05+ GT/specB, pick your style/price range and have at it.

Either subiefan's English or spelling is poor .....I believe he meant 'older'... and 'feacher' = feature....

buying a legacy turbo
sorry i meant model...
i am looking to keep it under 2500 for the car which knocks out Impreza,
i will drive it on the street alot
my thinking on way getting a legacy was they are cheap turbo cars , from what i here they are stong (close deck heads are sweet) and there is alot you can do to them
if i am wroug plese tell me

OK, gotcha. For some reason I got stuck on "order" and kept thinking new cars.
For $2500 a Legacy SS is about your best shot. Most of the clean ones are in the $2500-$3500 range, but many that need some work seem go for $800-$2000. Any non-tirbo Legacy up to '99 is a pretty easy conversion to turbo, but seeing as you are just starting to look it's best to look for turbo cars.
The *general* rule is.... suspension wise anything for a '93-'01 Impreza will work. And, engine wise many JDM EJ20G upgrades will work.
There are exceptions, of course. If you do decide to pick up a '91- '94 Legacy you'll find most things have already been done by someone here on these boards. Lots of info to be had, for free!

legacy turbo
ok sweet i am gald those coil overs will work . i fould a car on craigslist i may go look at it has a jdm auto tran swap , 4.44 gears but other than that is stock , i wish it was a manaul tran ,
so far what i like about the legacy turbo is that your can you use cheap part ie injectors off sti ,wrx brakes ,cheap older dohc head, impez parts (corret me if i am wrong ) alot of my friend have sti and wrx and mod them on a regaur bases so free parts, and i have left few over wrx wagon parts ,
would i be better off selling my turbo and getting a bigger one like a 18g or what ????
ps first free be a pare of sti yellow injector

Re: legacy turbo
I make it a point to obtain OEM parts that WRX guys are pretty much giving away. They can and do come in handy. There are some limitations as there are minor design differences that can put a damper on the swap.subiefan wrote: so far what i like about the legacy turbo is that your can you use cheap part ie injectors off sti ,wrx brakes ,cheap older dohc head, impez parts (corret me if i am wrong ) alot of my friend have sti and wrx and mod them on a regaur bases so free parts, and i have left few over wrx wagon parts ,
Watch out for injectors, Subaru used two different style injectors, top and sidefeed. The legacy using the latter. USDM WRX uses topfeed.

Yes but you will need different rails, I think the 92-94 NA EJ22 rails work IIRC.

For standalones, any ECU meant for the JDM EJ20G can be adapted. I am running a Power FC, and Josh is in the final stages of installing a Link.
For a piggyback, a few have had success with the Perfect Power. I would look no further.
For almost any Subaru turbo upgrade look for intercooler install write-ups. Almost any turbo install is made easier and better with an intercooler at the same time. The old-school is a Saab 900 which works well and fits pretty easy. Many of us are going with '06/'07 WRX intercoolers because they fit well, but have a few piping details to work out.
If your starting with GC/GF/GM Impreza ('93-'01) coilovers, the fit is perfect, but the springrates might need fine-tuning (heavier car). If your starting with GD Impreza ('02+ sedan) coilovers springrates are good, but there is an alignment detail to work out (easy). GG Impreza ('02+ wagon) coilovers are almost perfect out of the box.
Good luck with your search.
