Engine management...

Post by desmo750 »

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum from NASIOC and just picked up a nicely modified 92 Legacy Turbo. Here is the current set up:

Engine:
*Deadbolt Monster TD05H-16G turbo w/black Xtreme ceramic coating on the hot side and grey ceramic on the cold side.
*WRX TMIC
*Samco Y-pipe
*CES Racing Systems Liberty RS 3" SS semi-race turbo-back exhaust with ceramic coated twin dump down pipe (DP03).
*CES, Boost Enhancement Plate (BEP).
*Supercat straight through 3" muffler w/ 3" straight tip.
*Carsound 3" high-flow cat
*CES Racing Systems up-pipe and cross-pipe.
*One-Step colder spark plugs
*Removed snorkus
*K&N panel filter
*Muggified stainless steel resonator delete
*Denso Audi 5000-T DV
*Paranoid Fabrications Single point grounding kit
*Walbro 255 fuel pump
*VRG3 Engine Control, Phase II FCD
*Joe-P MBC
*STI Group N engine mounts
*Diamond Coil Pack

The car is currently only running 8psi because of the stock injectors. What are my engine management and injector options so I can get this thing to run to it's full potential? I've heard about revtronics but their site says they only have a stage 1 and stage 2 system available. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wait for the Revtronic programmable chip.

Apexi power FC, or any other EJ20G standalone.

Wire-in standalone.

Piggybacks.

We have writeups on Link, Power FC, and perfect power.

I think most people go with Piggybacks because our ECU already has all the right stuff to control a turbo engine. You see all the WRX guys going with reflashes but we can't do that.

I've heard a lot of bad things about Perfect Power 6, problems with bucking and hesitation and also it doesn't drive injectors directly. It can only modify the load signal to the ECU so you get adjustments in the form of +1 through like +10 or something. It's nothing like an actual fuel map and setting the MS the injectors are fired for.
Greddy Emanage Ultimate does drive the injectors by itself so you get much finer control over fueling (more resolution). I've heard nothing but great things about the EManage Ultimate. It is a little bit more expensive but I decided to go with it. I haven't bought mine yet so I can't say anything yet...
I went with a set of Deatschwerks injectors from here:
http://www.deatschwerks.com/catalog/

I had to buy a set of adapters to change the Phase 2 style WRX injectors to fit the phase 1 fuel rail. It's a lot cheaper than getting phase 1 fuel injectors and makes it easier to buy different injectors later. Here's where I got the adapters from:
http://www.fecker.co.uk/scooby/product.php?id=2
He's also got some phenolic intake manifold spacers on there and intake manifold adapters so you could switch to an under the intake turbo inlet and cool your intake at the same time! You would have to buy an EJ20H manifold of course though. Probably better to stick with what you got on second thought but hey just so you know you can do it!
