long awaited

Post by joeWM »

after weeks of parts gathering and reading, my attempt at installing a TD04 and FXTIC was nothing short of an epic fail due to my lack of knowledge and tools. but no need to fear because dale at NWSS saved the day, he took her in and after a few days he had done it. tdo4 and top mount on a basically stock SS. runs and drives better than before. i am very pleased with it. dales work was great. would deffinaltly recommend him to anyone having issues with just about anything on their subaru.his advice is great and he is a good honest guy.THANKS DALE http://simplysubie.com/

I know, right? Don't you just HATE how those plastic tanks transfer less heat into the intercooler?

talking about heat transfer, on a serious note. I know this isn't really the place to talk about gas mileage, but hear me out. I got the phenolic intake spacers, which in fact did reduce the top of intake temp by 30-35 degrees. definitely worth something. and at the base of each intake runner it is about 30 degrees cooler as well. what I did was, when I had just gotten off the hwy, I used my laser pointing pyrometer, and noted my top center of my intake was about 93 degrees, the base of the intake runner was about 130 degrees, and the portion of the head that is under the runner/spacer was 160+ degrees. I then at work got a same car (customer car) that had just gotten off the hwy (and sitting in the parking lot for ten minutes, mind you) and took the same measurements, and the top manifold was about 130 degrees, the intake runner base about 150, and the head about 165. so I'm pretty damn sure the 30 or so degree difference has something to do with me getting 502 miles out of one tank of gas. these aren't new, and are readily available @ grimmspeed.com, so at about $80 a whack, I am pretty sure they will pay for them self soon enough. only thing I will caution you about is if you have an egr tube, that it will have to be bent to make up for the added 8mm.(what I used) they have thinner ones, but I wanted the added space just for S&G's ok, please resume the thread. sorry to hijack.
