aluminum alternator/ac mount question

Post by jefferson »

I thought I was going to save some weight by replacing the cast iron mount with an aluminum one that a friend gave me. Only problemI knew of was the later 2 bolt tensioner for the ac belt. I haven't really messed with it yet and then the other day at the pick and pull I saw an aluminum mount with the 3 bolt tensioner like our cars. I was plenty happy until I got home and got to comparing distances etc. It looks like the bolt spacing is wider on the aluminum mounts, both of them. Did they change the bolt spacing on the later compressors?

Yes they did. I ran into this scenario when I swapped the EJ22T into my 95 Impreza wagon.

To reuse the Impreza AC compressor, I needed to swap over the aluminum bracket. The bolt spacing is different.

So to answer your question, if you want to use the aluminum bracket, you need the AC compressor that went with it (you can have mine if you want it, I ended up yanking it)

I don't think I want to go to the trouble of switching compressors and lines just so I can use the aluminum brackets, and that is even assuming the lines would hook up to the stuff in the Legacy. Thanks for the info.
