Installing coolant temp gauge

Post by Trace »

hello guys,

I've finally decided to install a new external coolant temp gauge. the original one inside the instrument panel doesn't work when i first got the car, I am suspecting the wire of the sending unit was torn apart by a family full of rodents.

I took some picture of the torn wires but i am not sure if it is the coolant temp sending unit. Can someone help me confirm this?

Here's the close up view

Also, do I need the adapter that comes with the meter or the original one is fine?

Thanks guys!

Yeah that single wire is for the temp gauge on the dash.

Why not just repair the wire on the stock gauge?

Thanks for the confirmation!

I've been trying to do that for awhile but the space was tight and as I was trying to relocate the coolant reservoir to somewhere else I accidentally broke off one of the plastic hose and (HOT) coolant spilled all over me LOL. Besides I wanted a more accurate reading of the temp too.

I don't know how i can get my soldering iron, solder and wires all fit into that little space....

and looks like the wire on the sending unit for the ECU is a bit torn too. I still hear the fan turn on once awhile so I *THINK it is still in contact but I"m not sure since I'm getting a really bad milage, maybe the engine is running hot all the time and ECU cannot get a correct reading. I'll find out as soon as i get the temp gauge working.

i put in a new sending unit with a guage from glowshift. just unscrew the old and screw in the new unit and then wire it up into the car
