Question comes after visiting the local Subaru dealership and reading a lot of online posts. Seems a lot of people have issues with the way Subarus look, especially the 09 WRX. I think its a little odd to worry about how a rally inspired car looks. It's not exactly looks that drew me to Subaru...it was the all-wheel donuts and the joy of spinning all four tires at every stop light.

Perhaps the guys with the problems are hoping to get a girlfriend with a "cool" looking car. Sorry guys, chicks come and go...but you can make steel last forever. (just kidding honey)

Personally, I'd drive a pinto if it went 0-100mph in 5 seconds....
...but then again, I grew up with rat rods (less is more).

It really all depends,i like sleepers as much as the next guy and i always prefer "Form follows function" which is my attraction to subarus.The looks always seem to follow whats necessary on the inside of the car,and because of that i find beauty.

But when it comes to my car,looks do matter lol.I just think a subaru is a horrible thing to neglect,they really are nice when put together right,

if you have a complete sleeper that looks like hell but can smoke every little cool kid in their rice ass hondas or wrong wheel drive cars, looks dont matter man

Let's just say it all depends on the budget. Just remember performance first, looks later =)

I agree with ericem on the performance first aspect, as well as making the interior/ anything to do with how the car drives from in the cabin, the way that you want it. I am not saying painting trim or anything, but putting in a short shifter, changing the bushings etc made me feel so much better every time i sat in my car to drive. I did these upgrades before I change my rusty fenders, touch up the paint etc. On the other hand, being a car guy, I judge most people on the appearance of their car to some extent. A sleeper and an ugly car are two different things entirely...

looks dont really MATTER, but they are nice.
my car doesnt look like anything special, but all of the ppl ive raced and beat just cant stop looking at trying to figure out WTF it is haha

I stopped caring what my car looked like after getting door dings and jackass running into my vehicles. Yes I could have let the insurance take care of some of the cosmetics but I don't want to have the premium get raised because some other crack head's mistake.

I'm glad to see there is a Subaru community behind me.

I agree that if the car looks nice its a bonus...but man is it fun to put the beat up ones in the dirt!

I think I'll stick to my old saying "All Go, No Show!"

I'm going to agree with gijonas's comment "Form follows function."

So true. I think what Subarus have on the inside is what makes them so awesome on the outside.

Example: FUNCTIONAL hood scoops. Yes, they look cool, but they're there because they're needed, not just to make the car look like a drag car of some sort.

It's been proven that boxer engines last a lot longer than most in-lines because of the way the oil can reach just about anywhere in the engine (even when it's low) and what do you get with that boxer motor? An amazingly beefy sounding 4 cylinder that would make most V-6 and V-8 enthusiast turn their heads to see what muscle car was rolling up.

If it's a track car then no it doesn't matter one bit.

If it's a daily driven car, then I have to at least be able to stand to look at it or I'm not gonna buy it.

Its not too great for picking up the ladies in though. Thats why I have this:
