Pedals, shifter, tranny are out. Just gonna yank the crossmember off. Tranny is heavy, tough work all by myself.

Ya ive got the luxury of jackstands in a dry garage. With air tools.

Rear end and drive shaft is out. The wagon is in just gotta start unbolting. I think Im gonna start with the rear end and drive shaft this time.

so i had he swap completed a long time ago. But when the 5spd was getting stored it was on an angle, and im stupid and didnt check the fluid when it was installed in the wagon.

I made it over 100km on a pretty much fully dry transmission before she seized and locked all my wheels. Moral of the story, CHECK YOUR TRANSFLUID! haha. Lesson learned.

Anyway, car sat because Im a sore loser untill my friend was poaching the airconditioning in the driveway. He was messing around revving it off the limiter. Then for some strange reason he desided to dump it at 6500rpm in reverse. Tranny unseized. Im running 80w90 in it for a week and then im gonna drop the pan and check it out. I might go to 80w140 if i see alot of metal.

Man, the 5spd has SO much more pep.

Now I just gotta figure why she makes a grinding sound on stock wheels at full steering lock. Hope i didnt brake anything else.

PS

CHECK YOUR TRANNY FLUID!!!!

You're crazy. I wouldn't be able to find the motivation to get that job done.

I once replaced my 4EAT in my 90 L wagon in a friend's garage and his dad helped me get it back in. And it was still a major bitch! I hated every minute of it. The whole time I was thinking how easy it was when I removed the tranny in my toyota pickup by myself in my driveway and put it back in and then removed the engine and put it back in...in the same day.

If I ever had to do the stupid tranny again I would consider removing the engine to get it out vs under the car style.

I'm on my fourth after the MT swap.... Got it down to a 5 hour job now :)

I could never find gears I liked, but FYI, there are a TON of subie tranny's that will bolt right into our cars.
Cheers,
morgan

Did you pull the engine out of your car when you put the 5mt in it?

I'm thinking of doing the auto to 5spd swap on my Turbo Wagon.

No, I installed it from the bottom and wish I didnt. It so easy to pull the subaru motors anyway. Plus you can give it a good clean that way.
