driveshaft selection?????

Post by irelyea0014 »

sorry if this has been covered..... but I am doing a auto to 5speed swap in my 91 legacy ss. I am using a JDM legacy GTB tranny (1997, 4.44) and a forester XT rear diff (2003, 4.44, LSD). Which driveshaft would work in this case, a newer legacy, a forester, impreza? I am prety sure that I know an older legacy wont work due to difference in rear yokes, but are all the newer ones the same splines/length?
1999 impreza 2.5RS 5 speed *daily driver*
1998 legacy 2.5GT wagon 5 speed *250,000 miles*
1991 legacy SS 4EAT *soon to be 20K powered and 5 speed swapped*

any input at all???? If i had to make a guess..... I'd think that the driveshaft should go with the tranny, and like a 98 or so legacy 5 speed would work..... I may just take the one out of my 98 gt and see if it fits.

I can't comment on the Forester rear pinion flange, but a 5 speed driveshaft from a '92-'99 Legacy will have the u-joints (not the early CV style) and fit the chassis.
