Who works at a Subaru dealer? Need a favor.

Post by PhyrraM »

I have a side project going that involves a '05 Legacy GT motor and harness. The '05 Legacy is a CANBUS system.

I have a complete harness. I have the ECU, the key, the Immobilizer module and antenna, the steering column and even the OEM fuel pump assembly. All from the same donor car.

What I do not have is the instument cluster.

I have read one of three scenarios. I'm trying to get the down to the correct answer. My local dealer is completly avoiding the issue and completely useless at this point. I'm hoping that somebody will be able to help me out with some factual info.

Scenario 1- ECU checks the cluster before allowing engine to start. But the cluster can be reprogrammed to match the rest of the immobilizer system by SSM3. I find this the most likely, because it is known that a dealer can program for new keys.

Scenario 2- ECU doesn't care about the cluster. I'm good to go.

Scenario 3- Cluster is checked, but cannot be re-programmed. I'm screwed. I find this to be unlikely, because the cluster can be ordered from a dealer as a replacement part.

Thanks for any insight. I would try it myself, but I'm more than a year out from actually getting to the point I can start the motor. But I am currently collecting parts.

I can't help you with your technical question on this issue. But, you clearly have a problem. Don't seek a treatment program for this dependency. It is very interesting following your Subaru exploits.
