Pretty Simple Question, I think

I have a 91' Legacy AWD, no turbo.

completely stock, as far as I can tell, and i was wondering what I could do to the stock exhaust system to perhaps get a bit more sound out of it, without going all honda-sounding. is there a silencer in the stock system? if so, is it easy to take out? just little things like that

You could get a cat-back but that means money.

Are you asking if you can do something for free?

You can de-snorkel your intake + K&N filter and make it louder.

An axle back exhaust, or just swapping the muffler will give you better sound.

If all you want is a little more sound for free, punch a hole in the muffler. Or remove the muffler gasket and replace it with two thin washers. :)

Cut off muffler. Get a clamp and pipe , I think it was 2", from your local Auto parts place and install.

thats what I said in the other thread of the same topic.

If you have 5 minutes and a saws all (even a hacksaw) just cut the muffler off. its Free!

You can gut your mid-pipe.

there should be a resonator you can get taken out and a pipe welded in there, KNN, and just like an sti muffler or something of the sort would sound GREAT!

I ran strait pipe from the cat back fro a while. It sounded badass, but it was LOUD (set off car alarms, Harley Davidson loud). I had to put a muffler on when I moved - it was too loud for suburban NJ. It does have good tone and backpressure with a high flow muffler though, I think the stainless magnaflow meant for a mustang fit in there perfectly, but I stepped up to 2.5" from the axle back.

Thank you guys alot! For now, i think i may just cut it off, and keep the cut off bit for when the cops get ancy in mid august (western SD, Sturgis Bike Rally always heats things up :P) question though, where should i cut it off? back by the converter? up by the tip?

In all seriousness, you should do what Vikash suggested and remove the gasket in between the axle-back and mid-pipe and put two washers in its place. That'll help to un-muffle everything, but it won't be RIDICULOUSLY loud.

+1. It's free and completely reversible, plus some people have been known to "tune" their exhaust sound by adding/removing washers. It's kinda redneck, but who cares? Just don't tell your buddies, lol.

My LOB blew the flange for the spring bolts clean off, the donut gasket is gone so I pretty much have a straight pipe system at the cat. It is sooooooooo frickin' loud that it hurts my ears. The after fires sound dope as shit though, almost like an anti-lag system. hahaha

I need to get it fixed... Anyone have a OEM LGT cat back they want to part with cheap?

sorry mate, id like to keep mine for now... and id like to be able to go to deadwood and set off car alarms, so straight pipes with a aluminum 3" tip sounds like it will be loud enough... and becuase of sturgis bike rally, cops cant really complain about the noise that it will make when the bikes are just as loud.
