4eat to 5mt swap, ignition question.

Post by Dantes Inferno »

I can get the key ignition to start the vehicle after my 5mt swap. the car used to be a 93 wagon with automatic. now it has a 91 5speed in it. The only way I can start it right now is by jumping the starter solenoid or bump starting it. I cannot crank the starter with the key. Has anyone ran into this problem before?

You have to jump pins 4 and 11 on the autos larger unused plug, if I remember correctly. It goes over all of these details in the writeup in the Library. Have you checked it out? I just finished this same swap about two weeks ago.

ya, but its may as well be a foriegn language to me. I dont know what pins are or jumping. I dont even know which wires and where they are talking about.

I have removed the TCU. There are some unused connectors now just hangin out. And the wires that used to go the the old auto shifter. My friend somehow got the thing to think its in park or neutral so the key gos in and turns and releases as normal. Just wont crank over. Im just trying to stay away from push button starts.

Hmmm, there was a better page, but now I can't find it. But according to this

http://legacycentral.org/library/transm ... ronics.htm

you need to short pins 11 and 12. Sorry for the mis-information in my previous post. The plug you need is located next to the firewall in the engine compartment. It used to go to the auto, but now it just sits there. There should be two plugs actually, but you need the larger one. Looking into the connecter from the pin side, not the wire side, 11 and 12 should be the two bottom right pins.

My write up has pretty good pictures and info. I'd suggest reading over it if you have not.
