4EAT Trans goes away after 10 miles

Post by Aerotech »

OK, I've never seen this one... A few days ago, the tranny started whining after a moderate drive. The next day, after about 10 miles or so, it started slipping, the tach revved up but the car slowed down. It got worse, until there was no drive left at all...

When car cools down to ambient temp, the trans works normally.

Fluid shows full on the dipstick. Seems to be running on a very small amount of fluid which heats up, then overheats and looses it's viscosity & ability to move the car? What should I be looking for; a clogged filter, bad fluid pump, etc.

I'm pretty much completely ignorant of auto trans inner workings...

I'd drop the pan and see if the pickup screen has a bunch of junk in it.
