Pad/rotor fitment issues (Hawk brake pads)

Post by adema2626 »

I just got my Hawk HPS brake pads today and I took everything off and got the rotors turned. I get the pads put in and I try sliding the rotor in between the pads. It doesn't fit. The caliper is completely compressed and the pad is recessed. The outside pad sticks out a good 1/4" to far even with it flushed up against its holder.

I check the part numbers and they all match up so I got back on line and looked at the legacy hawk pads selection. I noticed that there is a legacy sport and a legacy ls sp. I ordered the legacy sport pads. Was I supposed to order the legacy LS SP pads?

These calipers are off a 91 legacy SS pearl white sedan. Am I missing something? Any help would be great guys.

This may be a dumb question, but I want to be sure -- you fully retracted the piston (with a C-clamp or something), and you slid the caliper all the way out on its two slider dowels?

Turns out the sliders on the caliper was not going as far back as it normally did. So i rebuilt the calipers and now they work amazing :)
