Subaru Love

Post by SubiePrice88 »

Today at work I was standing around (was slow for a little bit) with some fellow co-workers and we were watching the cars drive by and just BSing.

I noticed a Subaru Outback in the middle of the road blocking traffic(its around 5pm so theres alot more cars out than usual) in front of where I work with flashers on and a guy parked behind it trying to help the older lady out.

Come to find out he wasnt the only person to stop and try to help her. One guy I work with said atleast 4 other people had stopped and tried to help her.

Ive seen this before and usually they just push the car into the next parking lot off the street. By now the last guy to try and help the lady had left, So i decided to see what I could do. I ask if anyone else wants to go and try and push the car out of the way, the only other person to say yes is my buddy Cameron (drives a Subaru Outback Sport).

We run across Division (pretty much the main road that runs North and South out of Spokane) to the Subaru and the lady. I ask her if we can try to push it and she says it wont go into Nuetral.

I jump in the front seat and try to turn the key and depress the brake and try to move the shifter from park into neutral...no go! The battery is dead and I notice that just above the shifter theres a sticker that Says "Shift Lock"

Im inside the car messing with things trying to figure it out for this nice lady and get the car off the busy road. A guy pulls up behind and comes up to me and says "put it in nuetral and lets push it" he was actually kind of rude. I say it wont go into neutral he says "push the clutch in" I yell back its an AUTOMATIC!

I get out and ask the lady if she has the manual because the shift lock is on, the guy asks if he can try and figure it out. I dont want to go breaking things, so she gets me the manual. I look up shift lock (Shift Lock Release) and tell the guy theres a shift lock release which allows it to be taken out of Park and put in neutral.

So he pops the little square cover off to the right of the shift lever and pushes a key down in the hole and moves the lever into neutral...BINGO!

My buddy and I move to the back and start pushing the Subie off the road (making subie rumble noises and BOV noises) the guy that was helping was doing the steering/push from the driver side and my buddy and I got it going so fast he had to jump in and slow it down (must have been the subie exhaust noises) :-)

long story short it felt good to help a fellow Subaru owner out. She was very greatful. :D

and it reminded me of the comercials. "Love. Its what makes a Subaru, a Subaru"

:-D :-D

Anyone else have any, Subaru Love, stories?
