Transmission Dropping Gears?

Post by hitchhykova »

If it's not one thing it's another with this damn car.

Today, when I left to head down to Chicago from Wisconsin, when I took off, it shifted hard for no reason, and then had no 4th gear.

Whenever I would step on the gas, the RPMs would jump, then it would grab, staying in 3rd. I've had transmission issues like this before with a totally different brand of car, and the same trick worked with this car...

I turn it off, then start it back up, it works perfectly, all gears, normal shifting.

I've flushed the fluid twice now, the first time I added seafoam, drove for a few days then flushed it again.

What would cause it to do that?

My GL had similar issues when the modulator valve went, but I imagine the computer does that job on the Legacy transmission.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
