WRC hood lamps NOW WITH PICS!!! CUSTOM MOD
Hey not sure if this belongs here, but I'm interested in finding/buying/makeing a hood lamp set for my car. I like to do runs in the mountains and would like to have more lights. I know primitveracing.com makes them for subaru's just not a BC.
does anyone know where I can get one??

look over on www.specialstage.com forums.
i know davenport racing can get light pods for the hood.
rocket rally up in canada may be able to help.
there are also fab shops in Co. that could help you too. i think one of them is checkpoint.

Well I couldn't find any pods that were what I was looking for so I decided to make my own. Those these aren't finished yet but heres a teaser!

After they are finished I need to find away that I can mount them to the hood. Keeping in mind I would like to take them off here and there with out drilling holes into my precious hood! any Ideas???
More pics in the daytime just got the fiberglassing done wow time goes by fast (started at noon today)
Mods If this thread is more of a mutilmedia thread instead of a misc please feel free to move it Thanks

I think if you don't solid mount them by drilling them into the hood, they'd move around too much and scratch the paint anyway (as well as be less effective lights). How about some 1/4 turn fasteners, like Dzus?

Well they're actually hvap metal stacks. 6-7 inch conical shape. I really don't want to drill into the hood but if that's all I can do then I suppose that's what I'll have to do. I guess it's a good thing that I picked up a spare hood. The hella lamps that I'll be using will have a pivot point for adjustment.

What size/model hellas are those modeled for. If you can find a way to securely mount it to the upper rad support you may not need to drill holes in the hood. Probably wishful thinking, though.

Right below the grille, in the top of the bumper cover are two thin long slats. I would suggest making a bracket out of steel that slides into these spots and attaches to the frame somehow. That way you can remove the lights easily. While making a set that looks like it "flows" with the hood may seem like a cool sounding idea: if you want to take them off frequently, you need to get practical on your mounting solutions.
I would suggest a trip to the local off-road supplier for some ideas.

if you look at rally teams they have post mounted to the hood what the pod mounts to, and then they use turn buckles to the bumper support to pull it tight against the posts. or they use some sort of fastener to hold it down to the hood. I would suggest finding pictures of teams set ups and seeing how they do it, the last thing you want is the lights coming loose when they are on

Might be better to drill and tap new holes into the beam, then, since those thin metal pieces are just used as bearings to distribute the load from the bolts that hold the cover to the beam so the cover doesn't tear. The heads are huge, but the actual bolt diameter is pretty small and I don't think they'd support a bunch of lights off road very long.

Thanks guys, well I'm going to hit up some of the four wheel shops around town in Friday.
About the mounting situation my spare hood maybe coming into play, it's not the best but I'm thinking of getting a rivot gun and rivoting the pod into the spare hood an just swap hoods when ever?? That way I won't have to worry about of falling off or moving around. But I'm going to look at the options be go from there.

You might also want to mount some tie downs on the hood leading edge or somewhere to the bumper beam to prevent the hood from bouncing.

If they blended straight back into the hood, they'd look like cannons.

Oh yeah it's a pain in the a** to work with I had some glass get in to a shirt and it burrowed into my arm, it became infected
. Can't wait for the next project! It involves hood vents and a scoop.
As for seeing at night it's awsome. I did an hid conversion which came out to me loosing my high beams :(so. Get outta they way.
I've had a few local cops ask me to light em up and they deffintly outpower their spot lights!

Those look pretty heavy. How did you bond them to the hood? I think if you rally that car that's going to crack/seperate from the weight and from fiberglassing it to metal. It looks like there's already a crack on the passenger side.
Do you have any pictures of how you bonded it to the hood?

I had used rivots, sheet metal screws with an industrial epoxy that is holding them on right now, in the picture I took there was a crack but I pulled them off and redid the bonding with the concauction above, they are heavy but there hasn't been a crack since then. I'm going to finish these after work so I'll have some pics later on today
