The EJ25/EJ22T hybrid took a dump on me tonight, wiring grem

Post by impreza_GC8 »

My turbo'ed Outback that is powered by an EJ22T ECU took a dump on me tonight. Threw a CEL and started shooting flames, had no power at all and was misfiring. I got the car home and tried to read the codes but my black/gray connectors have cut wires on them. My green connectors are fine but I have TWO SETS of them. I bought this car with the motor swap and wiring already done and I'm only now beginning to see that the wiring is a cluster. I have a set of green read code plug under the dash where they belong. Then I have a set of black/grey and green/green connectors on the passenger side footwell where the ECU is. A wire on the black and gray connectors is cut. So I cannot read the code or clear it. I disconnected the battery for the night, will see how it is in the morning but I'm feeling really discouraged right now. When I got the car home I noticed that it had blown some oil out the bottom of the block under the timing cover and it appeared that I had overfilled the oil. I did do an oil change
today but I thought I was pretty close on my oil level, but I may have overfilled because I was worried about underfilling. Regardless, I drained some oil but I can't say how much because it rushed out very quickly, then the dipstick read that it was low, so I ended up adding a quart back in. The car runs like crap now. Really not sure where to go with it as I didn't do the motor build and up until this point it has been nothing but a reliable daily driver/Rallycross car.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe the 02 sensor crapped out on me? The car is catless and runs PIG RICH (around 15-17 mpg) so maybe the sensor got clogged up finally?

Thanks for any input.

By the way, here is the engine build:
-EJ25 (NA) block halves
-EJ22T crank & rods
-EJ25 (NA) flat top pistons
-EJ20G intake manifold
-440cc injectors
-VF8 turbo (JDM EJ20G)
-EJ22T ECU & wiring harness merge
-EJ25 DOHC heads (M.Y. 1996 w/ hydraulic lift adjusters)
-catless 3" bellmouth downpipe
-3" SPT exhaust for WRX (modified to fit Legacy)
-EJ22T fuel pump
-2002 WRX top mount intercooler w/ custom Y-pipe
-short ram intake w/ cone filter and custom aluminum heatshield
-TurboXS bypass valve
-2000 2.5RS radiator cap (higher pressure than stock Outback)
-Hallman Pro MBC set to 11lbs
comes in around 2.4 liters with around 8:1 compression ratio

Things I have done so far:
-double check that O2 sensor is connected
-visually inspect all vacuum lines
-remove intercooler and check y-pipe for holes
-remove cam covers to visually inspect timing belt and cam alignment
Everything checks out fine so far. The CEL flashes 6 times when I read the code but 6 doesn't exist as a code. I'm thinking that one of the longer blinks might be a 1 so its possible that the code is 16 and I just suck at OBD1 stuff, in which case 16 means Injector 3 malfunction.
I am also leaking oil from the bottom of the block by where the thermostat is.

Figured it out, it was an injector that went bad. I need 440 side feed ASAP so I can race tomorrow at Midwest Regional RallyX. I'll take any sidefeeds even if they aren't 440 as long as they are close. Please let me know what you've got!!!
