Building an N/A
Hey guys ... as many of you know, I'm new to the suby's. I was wondering what can be done to an N/A EJ22 to give it a few more ponies? I already have a ported and polished intake manifold, and port matched and polished heads ready to go on. I was thinking about putting a short ram intake on but have heard too many horor stories of negative performance from them. I know that bigger injectors would be pointless, and I can't seem to find any headers for it. Wondered if i'd be worth my while to put STi valves in or if they even fit.
Anybody got any suggestions? Ideas? Also can I take the heads off with the engine still in the car?

I hear ya.Just saying,by the time you make an N/A engine fun you will have put in more time and probably money than to turbo the damn thing and be happy.

Headers/exhaust, Delta cams, your ported heads and maybe a bit more compression should get you near 200 horses at the crank, which sure sounds like a fun motor to me.
I'm pretty sure you can use 2.5RS headers, although I'm unsure about the rest of the exhaust system.

I did a perrin light weight crank pully on my 93 legacy l and it seemed to help it spool up noticably quicker
I also did a impreza shrot ram intake attached to my stock snorkel, it seemed to eliminate the low speed bog issue, I also gained big time on the high end

then hook it all up to a nice high flow muffler, lika a borla or dynamax or whatever. something that will give you a better flow and work well with the intake.

If you're into spending money on a n/a build, get this header,some deltacams, phenolic intake spacers, the short-ram intake and some thinner cometic head gaskets to raise the compression ratio.
Then post a dyno chart to see how it stacks up to a stock 200k mi. 92whp/110tq 'cause we're all dying to find out.

So wait, would those header acually fit a na 2.2l?
I know you were being sarcastic but think about it, the turbo legacy had like 160hp where as the na had like 130hp. I mean it's not a crazy difference. The turbo is definatly more capable in the long run but the na still goes pretty good once done up a little. Not everyone gets lucky enough to come across a turbo legacy for sale in there area, belive me lol I have been lookin for the longest time

Plus I've got nothing better to do ... I need a project. Hey if I can make almost 300hp out of an N/A Integra, I don't see why I can't get some power of this thing.

Nah, LS Block, LS crank balanced and knife edged, Civic Type R pistons, Civic Si B16 Head ported and polished with Skunk2 race valves and Crower Stage 3 cams, AEM fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator, MSD Full ignition system, MistubiSHIT GSX fuel injectors, B16 transmission with a Integra Type R final drive, ACT 9lbs flywheel, ACT 3 puck kevlar clutch, Walbro water pump and fuel pump, JET V-Power piggy back computer, Megan Racing Headers and Cam Gears, P&P LS Intake manifold, front mount cold air intake, OBD1 B16 ECU with a custom reprogramable chip ... I think thats it ... off the top of my head ... oh and a NOS 30 shot Sneaky Pete kit
And I was redlining a little under 10,000 rpm .... I used to BLEED Honda blood for the better part of a decade. Then I got a Subaru and made me feel like I wasted my time haha

i am in the middle of this right now. not as fancy as you but the heads have come off and been grinded and shaved. i built my own intake and i think it has done some good. it will be a lot better after i get the right headers and get the exhaust done. i have a Prodrive muffler right now. i have the group A pulleys and deleted the A/C. i want to do the delta cams also but might wait.

I'm pretty sure I read in another thread that headers made to fit a 2.5RS Impreza will bolt up nicely to our cars, so if that's the case then just search around for 2.5RS stuff. You'd want to confirm that with someone else though, I don't have first-hand knowledge of this.

Anyone still wondering about headers, magnaflow makes their "direct fit catalytic converter" for the N/A 2.2 that just so happens to have the rest of the exhaust manifold attached. I'm not sure how it stacks up against the stocker as far as flow, and there was a thread: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... +converter that said it didn't fit so well, at least for him. Not sure how true that is, but this and the catco version (essentially the same thing from the looks of it) seem like our only option short from a custom made header. You can find those two here:
