DVC subwoofer Q's

Post by SPUMONI_RT »

I have a DVC sub and have two diffrent amps. I know you cannot hook up one amp to each channel, and I read something about "straping" them together somehow. I'm just looking for ideas thanks.

Is your amp bridgeable?
What is it's minimum allowable output load?
What is the impedance of each coil?

Usually you hook up each coil of the subwoofer to one channel of a stereo amp. Sometimes you can run the voicecoils in parallel and run it off a bridged amp if the amp can drive a load that low.

One amp has two channels one is blown or something, but it was bridgeable. The other amp is mono. The mono amp can run 2 ohm and the other 4 ohm the sub is 4 ohm dvc.
I just need to know if i can run them together or do i have to just use one. That is what it seems to be looking like though.

This will tell you how you can wire your subs. Either in series or parallel. It will tell you what resistance it will be together for both ways of wiring the subs.

IF the mono amp is stable to 2ohms, then just run the 2 coils in parallel (+&+ to amp+, -&- to amp -) off the mono amp.

No no no, very bad. It is next to impossible to set the gains from two channels equally on a stereo amp. The channels with actually fight each other because the dvc's are fixed. You MUST wire a dvc's coils together either in parallel or in series and then to a bridged or single channel.

Very important.

If you need help figuring it out list how many subs and what each coil is rated at for ohmage ;) and what your amp is rated at bridged mono (probably 4ohms but depends on how much it was).

also there is a ton of info on www.the12volt.com
