SVX a good choice?

Post by SILINC3R »

there is a 92 auto for sale near me for 1550 and i might be considering it. any thoughts comments. i think there pretty cool looking and are kind of fast. 0-60 is like 7.3 versus my 90 ls that is 10.something.

The transmissions are all Automatic, and they're both heavier and more powerful than even the SS/TW, so if it's not been rebuilt recently, plan on it. Otherwise start budgeting for a swap.

Otherwise they're fantastic from what I gather.

SVX is a good car, but of course with it's own ideosycracies.

It's heavy, and with essentially Legacy SS brakes, it warps rotors. Rear wheel bearings go out, like many Subies. And the transmission is over taxed and tends to overheat and go bad.

All of these can be dealt with, with proper care and repairs when you do them.

The car is beautiful and handles well. The motor is as bulletproof as any EJ22. I'm convinced they will be a collectors item one day.

Go for it.

so upgrades would be a WRX tranny or keep it auto and use WRX brakes or something.

Thanks for the info

I'm not sure of all the exact upgrades, but the main one is a good tranny cooler and timely fluid changes.

SVXs have a unique front suspension design, so I don't know if they have the convenience of being able to use any Subaru brakes like we do. I know that they are 5*114 stud pattern like the '05+ STI.

You should head on over to a few SVX boards. I'm sure all the basics are well documented.

Pattern may be the same but the wheels have a different offset. The eg33 is an awesome engine,i have one that i am goin to build at some point. It is quite literally an ej22...just has 2 more pistons on the front and they are the same pistons as the ej22.

2.2 liters + 2 cylinders (50%)= 3.3liters

Just like how the old XT had a 2.7 liter flat six.It was just a loyale engine with 2 more cylinders.

1.8 + 2 cylinders = 2.7

From what i remember they are also closed deck just as the ej22t is perhaps not but power near the 1000 mark has been done.Throw in a set of 6 forged 2.2 turbo pistons and go at it!!

EG33 has an open deck, but very thick cylinder liners compared to many of the other open decks.

Yes, EJ22T spec pistons drop in and any EJ20x/EJ257 rods will also drop in.

The heads are a variation of the EJ20G/EJ20H heads.

I say go check it out. I'd like to have an SVX at some point, but with a 5mt swap for sure.

so it would be a good idea to turbo :-D is that what im understanding? well unfortunately it will be sold before i get the money just like every other car that i look at. but maybe if im lucky.
what you think 18 or 17 inch wheels. im thinking some wide ass wheels. maybe a nice little sound system since i havent had one yet. dont want to put one in the legacy cause im trying to keep the weight down. i think it has like 270 stock so with turbo 300 should be pretty easy. little intake and ehuast work shouldnt be to hard.
