Transmission Grinding - Time for Auto to 5mt Swap?

My T-Wagon has been making some grinding noises when under load. This only occurred after I changed the trans filter. Either I screwed something up when doing the maintenance, or the pound of metal shavings that were floating around in the old fluid were holding the tranny together.

I'd like to get some advice from you guys on the board.

Should I swap the transmission or drive it until it binds up?

How long has the 5mt conversion taken people?

If I swap a 5mt from an N/A donor car I would need to swap the diff as well?

When doing a 5mt swap are people leaving the engine in, or pulling it out?

What wiring needs to be swapped to complete the 5mt conversion?

I've been hearing this noise from the tranny for about 6 weeks... it hasn't gotten any worse, but doesn't sound any better. The month of september is completely open for me and would be the best time I foresee to embark on the daunting project of swapping a 5mt.

Thanks your help!

My auto to 5mt swap probably took 10 hours total. Definatly worth it.

Make sure you check all your fluids after, i messed up on that part. Almost ended up with a garbage 5mt after i did all the work.
