Initial Review, 37,500 Miles on Tires
August 07, 2009
I think I set a record for treadwear on my OE set of these - over 37,500 miles in about 20 months (long commute and road trips). About two days after I got the tC new, I read the reviews here on Tire Rack and have been babying the tires ever since. Still had a (very) few miles left on them, but the wet traction was getting pretty bad and I had picked up a nail in one tire so I decided to switch out. Dry traction - Not bad, but when they did let go in a corner, watch out. Didn't feel like the tires used up all of the suspension before giving up in a turn. Wet traction - OK until about the last 5K or so miles. Ice/light snow/heavy snow - Stay at home, read book or watch TV. If you have to leave, walk; just say no to driving in that kind of weather with these tires. Road manners - Very close second to the noisiest set of tires I have owned; so much so that it sets up a kind of curtain of white noise at highway speed. Even though my suspension is regular stock, felt each and every pebble larger than 2mm straight up my spine. Potholes larger than the size of a kiwi could require restorative dentistry and/or kidney repair. Value - Have you seriously seen the price of these things? And the 215/45-17 is apparently one of only a few (only one?) sizes this tire is made in. Only tire I have ever seen that a full set is 5% of the sticker price of the car. Overall: Not the worst OE tire I have ever had (saved by decent dry handling), but pretty darn close. Changed out for a set of Conti's and it's like a whole new car. Wouldn't put these back on unless they were free.
To me the tread pattern on the S32As look just like the RE-92s and we know how mostly everyone just loves
