Legacy gearbox help please

Post by stuartb »

I am looking (with no luck!) for a used gearbox for my legacy (its the diff thats gone).
If anyone knows of one I would really be grateful.

Someone told me I could use any gearbox for that model, regardless of the vin number, but I dont know if it would fit.

Any advice please!

Thankyou.

These are the details of my car:
The gearbox/transmission ID from the vin plate for the gearbox I want is TY754XRBAB.

Chassis code: JF1BH5KJ41G027650

Is that a US legacy? My little tranny data sheet has a big fat question mark next to that trans #, but it sounds like an Eu B12, correct?
Cheers,

saw a writeup somewhere on swapping the center diff, looked like it could be done in the car. Would be easier than swapping the whole tranny, and probably easier to find.

As far as I know, most trannies are interchangeable as long as you deal with gear ratio, cv style, and clutch design.
