Fixing the SS body damage...again
Some of you may remember or have seen the Original "Fixing the SS body damage" thread.. if not heres the link: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=39850
Well after all that hard work, I hit a deer
I couldnt decided to fix it or part it. After countless hours of thinking and going over things I talked my dad into helping me fix it again. I really could not part it out, it wasnt ready.
So here it is, pics and such of fixing my 92 Sport Sedan again...
(Like to have it on here incase I ever have to sell it and so its more legit and you can actually see what and how it was fixed)
Here it is the Day after I hit the deer:
Next, pulled Hood, both fenders, grill, lights, bumper, radiator, etc. I had a Agency Power light weight crank pulley that I have been waiting to put on and decided it was the perfect time. (Got bored and painted the power steering pulley)
I got a hood, both fenders, head lights, corner lights and core support all for $60.00 from a guy parting a wagon on craigs.
Just like the first time fixing, my dad and I cut out the damaged part of the core support:
Welded in the "New" core support:
Test fit the parts, made sure everything lines up...Perfect!
Took the 02/03 wrx scoop off the wrecked hood and fabed it onto the replacement N/A hood
Found an intake leak, the 90* had 3 huge cracks and I didnt have $70+ for a new one so for now I siloconed and electrical taped it works great:
Cleaned up all the welds and primer:
Than I bought a custom matched can of Liquid Silver Metalic (color code:249) and painted the core support:
Put everything back together:
Doesnt Look to bad, just needs paint
Said and Done cant really tell it was wrecked, besides the fishplate on the top of the core support and a couple little spots:
Its back with the Family of Subarus:
Thats it! My 92 Sport Sedan is back on the road!.....again..
Now time to keep it on the road and mods!
Thanks for checkin it out

I'd like to see more/better pictures of your scoop install. I have that same scoop but mine's not installed yet. I cut part of the hole out for it and my dremel died. Then I started using an air cutting saw and then my compressor was recalled and now I don't have a compressor so I never finished. When I did cut most of the hole out the hood was weakened and flexed a lot more, I noticed. Did you notice this?
If you could take some close up pictures that would be great. Is yours sitting on top of the hood or flush mounted?

your best bet to cut that hole would be to use a jig saw with a fine metal cutting blade while spraying a little wd40 as you cut.

Thanks for the tip. I have a jigsaw but I need to get a metal cutting blade for it. Didn't know about the WD40.
Random trivia of the day: WD40's main ingredient is....fish oil. No joke. Also, WD40 will not harm you if consumed.

kimokalihi - Ill get some better pics of my scoop install. This is the 4th one Ive done. Your best bet to make the hole larger is the dremel tool with the right cutting disk, its much more precise. I prefer it over anything else ive tried.

That's awesome. I let my brother borrow my SS while I was out of town, and I came back to a hit deer and overheated engine. Not funny. I don't have time to deal with it right now, but part of my fix-it plan is to replace the hood with an NA model and fab in a WRX scoop like that.
