Auto climate control

Post by __TT__ »

Has anyone ever seen a pic of one? or does anyone have an alpine edition and will take a pick of theres for me. Looking to add one to the t-leg and need a referance for browsing ebay. also is it just a plug and play part IE no other parts needed?

I've got auto climate control in a '90 (editted, thanks) LS wagon parts car. It is NOT plug and play, my understanding is that you have to have the entire heating/cooling system to swap in. I've looked at it nad the controls are vacumn operated instead of cables, so that's beliveable.

I may be able to get pic's Wednesday afternoon, depending on whether I can see the dash or not... Lots of parts crammed into the car...

I'm sorry I should have been more specific. I'm only interested in the first gen option that came in the alpine or mountain editions.

I think he means 90LS not 09 ls. Regardless like he said the temp control on our unit is cable while everythign I guess including the vent controls are vacuum.

Trust me, it is not going to work, even after swapping everything in. The wiring harness is completely different also.

Most of us have contemplated it, but have given up due to it being a lost cause.

Whats wrong with the stock system? Works pretty good, mostly electronic. A/C is temperature controlled, heat defrost all works whats the big deal? lol

So a lot of contemplating but no actual work?! I don't know I mean in order for "options" to be cost effective for subaru they would have had to pre wire for them in most all models. I mean look at the adjustable Int wiper switch, its just a plug and play. the same has to work for same MY auto hvac, even if it is an entire heating system it should be a plug in and go. UNLESS the alpine/moutain edition inside main harness is model specific.

Now as I'm saying this im laughing cause after some researching adding the heated mirrors I'm not seeing an unused plug or unused wires in a plug for the heating elements in the doors. It could be in the door jam boot though. I'd need to see a heated mirror.

I hate to say this, but SHOULD is not the way it works.

The mirror wiring for heating is not there.
Same thing with the auto climate. It was a different harness altogether. I have an 05 STI with the auto climate. I have an 01 RS and have seen and had the controls for the auto climate. Same thing with the SS. It is WAY different that the set-up for the stock manual controls.

It is not worth the effort to just have it be auto on the SS.

Its not in the door for sure I agree but are you 100% its not in the body side of the door jam plug?

Sorry for the jump in topic

You still constantly adjust "auto" climate anyway.

Only the JDM cars had the folding and/or heated mirrors. I know because I ADDED them to my car. SoI know the harness does not exist. Same thing with the headlight levelers. NO WIRING.

What you got is what you got.

UNless you like a LOT of wiring and fabricating.
Even I stop at the Auto climate. And I added: folding mirrors, glass headlights with levelers, headlight sprayers, fog lights.

IF someone REALLY wanted to make the conversion I might be talked into pulling the auot climate system, complete with the dash harness, etc from my parts car, but for now I'm planning to make the parts car my driver and my driver the parts car... (parts car is nicer than the driver :(

ok auto climate WAS an option for LHD cars which still could have been outside usdm I guess.

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=30531

see fig 720-4a There are some harnesses that may match up somewhere as well. Also 730-1 shows a diferent heater system altogether.

I think I stand corrected on the mirrors and seats being heated as they are not in the catalog. I guess it's possible the Alpine editions where ethier full on imported jdm shells or where imported harnesses and parts from jdm.

Now weather or not its a usdm thing I'm not 100% still

There ARE at least two types, that is certain. I've seen both kinds in various pics. I have no idea of any other details--such as where and when each type was installed. Pre- and post-facelift maybe?

The one in the pic above is the ones found on the europeon & possibly japanese models.

I don't think they were a full auto climate control like the ones found on the higher end legacies here in the states.

does anyone know the reliability of these systems? I'd be pretty hesitant to do a conversion with some shaky early 90's technology that uses vacuum lines and is rare to begin with. an electronic HVAC unit is complicated enough as it is. there are actually 3 or more different BC HVAC units, I bought 2 that werent the same as mine before I got the right one.
