A/C Delete?
So ive heard that taking out the a/c frees up a few hp, that true? and in my 90 legacy do all i need to do is take the belt off?
Not true.
When the AC is not on, the pulley is free spinning and has little to no effect on parasitic load.

I agree with this. The pulley just freewheels when the A/C is not on. So if you remove all the A/C stuff you wont get any more power but you will eliminate about 50 lbs from the front of the car.Lunatech wrote:The only "good" it does is to lighten the weight of the vehicle slightly.

Removing the A/C also simplifies installing a TMIC and makes a LOT more room in the engine compartment

seems to make sense but it seemed to help me out when i got rid of mine. i was able to go up a mountain without having to shift down to 3rd, was able to stay in 4TH. also freed up the engine bay a good bitLegacy777 wrote:Not true.

taking the belt will do very little. the a/c cuts out when you get on it anyways. but, that copressor is heavy. you can also rip out the exchanger, wires, tubing ect. i've enjoyed this mod.
and if you can fab up a bracket for the alternator, you can get rid of that big cluncky cast iron stock one.
