"Free Flowing Muffler"?

Post by Mattheww044 »

Hey guys, I am very interested in buying a straight through, or free flowing muffler. I DO NOT want it to look like a can, I can't do it. So if you guys have any clue on who makes a good looking one, I would like a large tip, but not a can. If that makes sense, I have tried googling and such so ya, any help is much appreciated!
Thanks

This I think is the closest thing to what I could find:

a stock Sti muffler is alot more restrictive I believe

thinking about buying it, cutting it open, and just putting a straight pipe from the inlet to the outlet, so it would essentially be a full straight 3" exhaust, besides my resonator, and this muffler, which would just be to look like a muffler, but wouldnt really muffle anything :D

I bought two of these mufflers from summit a few months ago and they're been sitting in my trunk in the boxes they came in. One has dual tips and one is offset on on one end and centered on the other.

These are both 3" mufflers but I believe the dual tip is 2.5" outlets and 3" inlet.

Don't have pictures of the offset one though. I think they're both supposed to flow one direction only though and I can't remember if the offset one is offset for the inlet or outlet.

Couple gibson tips I bought from summit and found out the mounting ends are the exact same diameter as the outlets on these mufflers instead of being a bit larger to slide over them.

nice that looks pretty good. Ya the thing is my exhaust is already ran for a centered muffler inlet/outlet. I dont really wanna have to have it cut/rewelded a bunch besides the old muffler off/new muffler on. I might just buy that muffler and throw it on and try it out... I mean straight 3" would be pretty damn loud.. probably tooo loud lol

If you're looking for loud, I don't think these mufflers are loud. When I was talking to borla I asked them which muffler wouldn't be too loud but very deep and this is what they suggested.

yea, i was thinking about that muffler myself. I can understand not wanting a loud car, but for some reason I LOVE hearing my Subaru, I ALWAYS have my window down, heater blazing, just so I can hear my exhaust haha. I think my plan will work out pretty well, but it might be a little too loud. I dunno yet. Ill probably buy that muffler and sell mine, and that should be decently louder as it is. If thats still not good enough, I will customize the true "Free flowing" muffler

If you run a straight thru exhaust on a NA car you WILL loose ALL your bottom end. It will be louder but you wont have any take off power.

I have an Injen Stainless Steel system otherwise knows as an SS system has a hidden can tucked behind the bumber with a nice looking tip...the catch is they dont make it anymore but you might be able to find it on clearance somewhere if you look it was recently discontinued. its for a WRX. The tip also sticks out a bit but i don't think it looks bad and i think it sounds great

yea thats kind of like the HKS Super Drager my friend has on his Supra. I am planning on going through with my idea, its only an $86 muffler, so I will try that at first.

Took my car to the muffler shop, and for now, we just unpacked the muffler. He cut little "doors" in the back of the muffler and we gutted out all of the stuffing. Made it a little louder but nothing crazy. I will probably do the straight 3" thing when money is more plentiful :D. Thanks for your suggestions and ideas though!

they have a decent sound to them when added by themselves
