Turbo Swap Help.

Post by Florin1 »

Hey everyone. Just finished my td04 and 06 IC install. Here are my problems...
1. 90* elbow hits intake runner. I still got the intake to fit kind of. (bigger concern is the pressure side)
2. When i downshift from say 5th to 4th my boost guage boosts up to around 9psi and than looses the boost to around 4psi until the rpm's climb to about 5K, and then its back up to "full boost". It kinda feels like a misfire but not. As it wraps out trough the rpm band i can feel the car loosing power than gaining than loosing again. :x
i replaced all the vacuum lines and pcv too, and 55 sti injectors. No chip as of yet.
The more i think about it the more i believe it had this issue before the swap. For example: cruising in 5th and than flooring it, still in fifth it would sometimes pick up speed quite nicely, but then loose power/boost after a few seconds. Any ideas? I tried to make this clear. I will drive it some more tonight and see how it does, but as of now, the car pulled harder with the old set up. (the car has a MBC but its not turned up much

1) Got pics of the clearance issues? I've got some tight clearance issues with my td05 which is larger. All the pics of the td04 installs I've seen haven't been any issue.

2) you're using 550cc injectors with the stock chip and it actually runs? What are the fuel trims, octane factor, etc in the ECU? Can use RevScan (it's free) to check/change these parameters.

Have you installed a fuel cut defender? If not, will be hitting fuel cut around 8 psi. If the ECU is seeing too much knocking or the octane factor is below 25%, the ECU will disable the BCS, retard timing, and increase fuel more.

Thanks for the reply. :) I don't have pictures of the 90* elbow but since you're in seattle and I'm in lynnwood I can swing by and show you? That way I can get some input from a more experienced subaru guy. I can even take you for a ride to show ya. Am I creeping you out yet? Haha. I'd like to look under your hood to see how you did stuff. I'll pm you my number and you can call or text me and I can swing by? And yes I'm running sti 550 injectors and the car seems to run fine except for it running a little rich. As for fuel trims octane factors and the other stuff you mentioned, I'm kinda new to turbo cars so I'm not sure what you're talking about. I don't have any kind of scanner tool besides my obd2 tool which is useless for this car.

Have a wideband yet? You're going to need one of those too.

To get a better idea what the ECU is seeing/doing, you'll need to get a subaru odb1 ssmi cable -- both evoscan and revtronix make them. Take your pick on which to get. They also both with each others software too. Suppose I could swing by some day and connect mine up to yours to see what is going on.
