Hood dampers
Does anybody know of any hood dampers that are available for our cars?

not necessarily for our cars... But i used to have some on my old hood. i think i got them off a DC Integra hatch @ a junk yard and made them work. worked out pretty good seeing as an integra hatch weighs 2 if not 3 times more than our hoods.

Interest in hood dampers for our Legacy?
I have one of the David Carter fiberglass hoods and don't have a very positive, secure point, for the stock hood prop to position into. I am having discussions with a parts fabrication/machine shop to get a set to work on my car. He would be willing to go into production for a Legacy specific set, but won't do a one off thing, needs more numbers. Stainless steel hardware, good reviews from Impreza people, for around $90.
$90 is about half the price of Tein and Endura Tech, and others. Anything for sale is worth what a willing buyer is willing to spend. So if $90 is too much for you, then you will probably not have a set of new hood dampers. You will go to a junk yard and get a non Legacy specific set of hood dampers and modify them to fit.

You're just talking about lift struts? Why not use wagon ones? You'd have to figure out if the angle open/closed is what you'd like, but I think I paid $20 a piece for them a few years ago. Came with new brackets and everything. Measure, drill, tap, and done. Hell, you might only need one for the fiberglass hood.
What about those old spring systems American cars used to use? I never looked closely at them, but they used spiral-wound spring steel. Might be able to pick one or two up cheap from a junk yard. I know 80's G-bodies had them, A-bodies, I think, too and probably F-bodies also.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

What part are we talking about? Is it number 8 or 9 in the picture linked below, or something else?
I'm confused.

From the pictures it looks like they would use the exising bolts/holes from the hinge mounts and maybe there's a bolt that is holding the fender on where the bottoms would mount.Legacy777 wrote:I'm curious how they install without any riveting or drilling....

Those things must really have some pressure to them if that's how they're setup.
