I'm about to take delivery of a 1993 Subaru Legacy FWD. With the purchase, comes pretty much everything from a EJ22T minus block. (Pff who needs those anyways heh) The sole purpose of this car is to become an RallyCross car.. I plan to keep it FWD, but I'm planning on swapping all of the Turbo parts, and boosted the frick out of it. From what i read, I know what I'm getting myself into.. but I do have a few questions...
1.) ECU. I know basically, I will most likely need something more then the FWD ECU. Would a Legacy SS ECU do the job? or would I have to move to a piggyback, or even a full standalone? Also, would those chip I see they make for the SS's work in this build?
2.) I know I need the TMIC from an 06, which I guess fits better, but I also need a different inlet hose. is this something you can work around? or is it set in stone? different intake? different intake manifold? (just curious)
3.) Turbo. I'm getting a vf11 with the purchase, but I have a TD04 in the garage that needs a home.. from what i read, I need to get a 90* bend, but can this also be modified? (Engineered) or is this the most efficient way of doing it? (Turbo turn?)
4.) turbo crossmember - 100% need it?
5.) what is this intake maf or what ever that everyone wants? does this car have it, I'm just not sure what's going on there.. can someone explain why these are in demand?
6.) What else am I missing so far? walbro is on order, looking at some different types of WRX injectors.. what about cam grinds? timing? anything else?
BTW Hi guys, I'm Nate from Maine.. I'm new here, and this is my first Legacy... I've always been an Impreza guy.. I'm expanding my horizons.. heh

Hi Nate & welcome to the BBS.
If you're not planning to run a complete EJ22t motor, and looking more at a hybrid setup of several different parts, you are better off with a stand alone or piggy back. If you go piggy back however, I'd still probably recommend starting with the turbo legacy ECU.
Obviously a full stand alone is going to give you the most flexibility. A piggy back will probably be second. The chips Revtronix is making may work, but you'll have to get them to tweak one or wait for their tunable chip.
Turbo crossmember, yes you need it.
You have to have a MAF of some sorts, unless you go stand alone and have a MAP based system. Those looking for more power tend to go for the JECS MAF since it flows more air. Your 93 FWD already has it. You need to have the engine management to read and control by it though.
You can look at cams if you want, delta cams offers different grinds.

When will these chips be available? or is that the Magic question!!! I want to eventually go full standalone for the reason I'm looking at Anti-lag and Launch control, and switchable tuning.. (GO FAST, no-go fast) I know it seems like an awful lot of work for a 2wd car, but this may end up being something else..

Dont mean to hijack the thread, but I am also planning a EJ22T swap into my N/A car. I already have the xmember, but I am concerned with the turbo specific sensors that I do not have wires to. What should be done for this? Find a factory turbo legacy and steal these or modify something to work? I am just curious on what problems people ran into and what they did to fix it.

if you have a cut off wheel and a welder you dont need the turbo crossmember. i cut and reshaped my n/a one and it works fine.
