Engine Management

Post by Florin1 »

My Sob Story

So, here i am a month after doing my swap, and feel kind of alone. I swapped these items over td04, 550cc's, 06 IC, (jecs sitting not installed yet), walbro 255, and most recent, my clutch. (car also has MBC and a 3" turbo back) I was ready for my chip.
Well, since Revtronix dropped off the face of the earth, that was bad timing on my part. Now, I'm sitting here with a poor running car and i do not feel like returning it back to stock. I would rather burn the car haha. I've been driving the car for a month plus now getting like 180 miles per full tank. That sucks. I can't go past half throttle because the car chokes, probably drowning in fuel.
My question is, what did you old school guys do to your cars to make 'em run right before RT was on the scene? Mechanical part of automotive is familiar to me, but the electrical, not so much. I hear the name "link EM" and some others and i guess my question is, If RT doesn't come back, what will i do?? Will i have to spend $1000 on EM? And another 3-400 on tuning? If that's the case... Burn it? :(
I'm not loaded, because if i was, id get an STI.

If you are running the td04 and IC. Just leave the stock BCS and put back the stock injectors! It will be fine.

but i wanna go fast... Faster than a wrx at least! Shouldn't our cars be faster than a wrx since we have 2.2L vs 2.0. And not sure if my BCS is still there. I got the car with a MBC.

Technically completely stock no. Displacement isn't everything. Plus the wrx engine has better heads, but we got the better block so we can run much higher boost more reliably then a wrx so we do win! With stage 2 it is definitely faster then a wrx almost at a STi ALMOST!!!! I was running td04 and 06 ic with the stage 2 on 440cc injectors.

Just put back the stock injectors and dial your MBC to 10psi. It is fast enough right? Better getting 300miles to a tank being a tiny bit slower then a wrx and waiting for Mike at revtronix to get back instead of slow slow with shitty fuel economy. PLUS you are washing down your oil with fuel so it is all just bad.

PP6 or Maf T Pro. You would need a wideband though.

What? No way man there super easy, just like on the first injector stand back a bit while it sprays fuel haha! I didn't realize even after unplugging the fuel pump while running there would still be pressure. Let's just say alot of fuel was on my face

I bought this seafoam stuff in a spraycan and I coat down the whole injector in it so it slides in nice and easy and cleans the injector.

swapped my stock injectors back in. Car seems to run just as crappy. Does the ECU need to relearn?

Yes, unplug the battery for 40mins or so. Are you sure all gaskets were on the original injectors? Why did you remove the rail btw :S I just use a long GOOD philips head screw driver. On the driver side removed the washer fluid tank 2 bolts and I put the tank on the shock tower. On the passenger side remove airbox and silencer box.

i removed rails because they have n/a rails w/ 550 injectors. My old turbo rails have my stock turbo injectors. So resetting the ECU is as easy as disconnecting the battery?? I thought it was more involved, like warming up the car, than connecting a one wire plug, than drive over 7mph for 1 minute than disconnect. Something like that... Can anybody else confirm?

Even the FSM states unplugging the battery isn't a good way to reset the ECU. You really need to follow the standard ECU reset procedures with the connectors under the dash... or use RevScan. Basically you need to jumpstart the re-learning of the fuel trim tables.

I also replaced those evil fuel cap screws with bolts. No more stripped screw heads!

$500 will buy you an AEM F/IC piggyback computer and a wideband. It isn't exactly Autronics, but you can run whatever injectors and MAF you want, and have a reasonable amount of control over your fuel and ignition system. I use it in my EJ20H-swapped SS and it works great, check my build thread.

The FSM that Legacy777 has posted ;) I'd also recommend getting the parts manual. another reading http://legacycentral.org/library/literature/codes.htm

Revscan works on cars w/o the chip installed too. just need the cable (revscan or evoscan cable are the same).
