Head Gasket selection and thickness

Post by macipusy »

I am trying to figure out the CR for my new 2.35L build and my HG choice is between OEM or Cometic.

I know the Cometic is .051" compressed thickness and 98mm bore

Is the OEM .059" compressed thickness? Is it 98mm bore?

Pros and cons on OEM vs Cometic?

I've got the OEM gasket in the garage. I'll try and take some measurements this week.

On the OEM ej22t gasket I measured in the garage, the bore was 98mm.

Compressed thickness was around .065"

Thanks for the measurement Josh. This should help me get some final CR calculations.

What about as far as quality, strength and reliability between OEM and Cometic?

Did you squeeze the gasket legacy777? I think it might be thinner when compressed. It supposedly matches the DOHC 2.5 gasket thickness which i measured in post 241 of this thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... 27&page=10

I did a bunch of research a while ago and looking back at my notes I found OEM HG thickness at .059" or 1.5mm.

It would be nice to confirm this since the difference in thickness between OEM and Cometic changes my CR calcs.

I'll try it again. Also depends on where I measured too.
