2.5L with a 2.2L crank

I'm just playing with all the blocks and cranks I have laying around. Most likely someone has done the same thing but I thought I see it the 2.2L crank fits the 2.5L Phase I block? It does fit but with the 2.2L rods the pistons fall short of the deck by around 2mm. So is the 2.5L rod slightly longer? I use the nearly flat top Phase II piston I figure the CR will be close to the original 2.2L

Has anyone played with this set up?

I have heard of people destroking the 2.5L with good results.

The 2.2L crank will fit the phase 1 2.5L.
The phase 1 2.5L rods are 1.1mm longer then the 2.2 rods.
The 2.5L rod journal is 48mm and 2.2 is 52mm.

Phase 2 2.5 SOHC rod is longer then 2.2 rod....I don't kow by how much
The journal diameter is the same on those

Might look into 2.2L crank, phase 2 2.5L SOHC rods and custom piston?

what is the goal with destroking a ej25? more revs? its already an oversquare engine.

The idea was just to see what fits what. I figure there is a ton of Phase I blocks laying around with no cranks and even more complete 2.2L as donors. If it was just simple case of dropping the 2.2L crank/rods in the 2.5L phase I block it would be a cheap conversion for 2.2L owners.
