So I have a stock 1992 Legacy L FWD 4EAT. It's in pretty good shape. It only has 135,000 mi on it and the transmission was replaced last year. I bought it from the origional owners who took great care of it and always kept up on all of the service it needed. Right now it is my daily driver, but I am thinking of eventually using it in light rallycross and possibly in stage rallying one day when I can eventually afford to upgrade some. My question is how durable are these older N/A Legacys? Can the stock suspension take some drifting in rallycross? Can the N/A take some higher rpms often without any damage? Can the 4EAT take shifting quickly and often? Does it hurt it to go WOT and accelerate quickly during daily driving?
Sorry if these are simple new guy questions, but this is my first car and I worked hard to finally get it, and I worry about it alot and just want to make sure I'm not hurting it any.
Thanks.
Quick questions.

Quick questions.
1992 Legacy. 142,000 miles.
Re: Quick questions.
They are pretty bulletproof. The 4EAT would be the weak point, usually... beef up the cooling for both engine and tranny, run a separate cooler (w/ fan) for the trans. and you should be good to go. Check the rules before you upgrade anything, but all sorts of WRX/STI parts will bolt right on; like brakes, struts, wheels, exhaust, (2.5RS NA parts for the motor) etc. and can be had cheap on NASIOC.

Yeah....the 4EAT is probably going to be the weakest link in that puzzle. Better cooling and fluid will help.

Re: Quick questions.
So would a 5MT be any stronger? I thought about doing a swap anyway. Is heat
usually the worst thing to happen to a 4EAT? what usually goes wrong on them?
What can I get from a 2.5rs to put into my EJ22? How much power can I make from it safely? (not looking to go turbo just yet)
Thanks for the answers.

Re: Quick questions.
Putting in a trans cooler and synthetic atf will go a long way to improve the life. This is assuming things haven't worn too much to where good fluid and a trans cooler won't really help fix something that is worn.
