Car hunting/spluttering

Post by ylumno3 »

Hello I'm new to legacy's and turbo cars in general and I'm having a bit of a problem with my 94 Legacy GT. Generally the cars fine not the best condition but certainly not the worst, it has been looked after for most of its life, the problem I'm having is when the car gets up the rev range around the 4-4500 rpm it starts to hunt very badly a bit like a rev limiter cutting in but not that subtle more maybe like severe fuel problems, does anyone have any ideas or maybe come across this before any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the BBS.

Where are you located? Is this one of the twin turbo Legacy's? If so, what you may be experiencing is what has been coined the "valley of death" where the switch takes place between the small primary turbo and larger secondary turbo.

There may be some leaking vacuum lines that are making this switch take longer or just not happening as smoothly as it should.

If you can provide some more information, that would be helpful.

Thanks
Josh
