5mt swap speed sensor

Post by dayno »

Hey all,

In the process of 5mt swap. On my 91 legacy the auto gearbox has a cable speedo cable. In the 5mt it is a sensor. It's from a 96 legacy.

Can I just remove the sensor from the 5mt and use a cable?

If not can I just change my instrument cluster?

I know the above is a long shot.....
any help would be great

You can remove the sensor and screw the cable in. Might need to hit a junkyard to get a 5-speed speedo cable. It has a funky extension cable/housing thing and the auto one doesn't. Auto one may not be long enough, or so I've heard.

Thanks for that. I though that may be the case. The auto cable enters the gearbox close to the firewall, where the manual looks as it sits more toward the back of the tranny. Haven't measured it as yet but it doesn't look long enough. Will hit the wreckers today.

Cant wait to get the box in and driving again
