1992 Subaru Legacy A-M Stereo Installation

Post by whittlingdesigns »

So I know next to nothing about installing stereos and I am concerned that when I purchase a new CD player unit, it won't work with my Subaru.

I have looked around a lot but couldn't seem to find any information for this model. It is not the turbo model.

What I need to know is what do I need to know in order to decide on a CD player and install it. I don't want to shell out the money until I know I'm not just throwing it away. Hope someone can help thanks!

its a easy install, heres the site i use from time to time with what you'll need

http://www.installer.com/item/display_i ... it=70-1780

as for mounting the radio if its the same as my 99 all you'll need are the mounting screws that come with most new radios and mount in place of the old one
Hot damm that was fun!

I frequently use Crutchfield.com for car stereo stuff because they have great customer service and include everything you need for installation with every order.

You should call them and they will no doubt help you choose a new stereo and help you understand everything that goes into making the right purchase. If you are replacing the factory stereo you will basically need the following:

-You new CD player (headunit)
-Subaru wiring harness (specific to your model/year)
-Some type of pocket (OEM or aftermarket) to fill the space left by your old radio
-Soldering iron/solder/electrical tape to merge the subaru wiring harness with the one from the CD player

Good luck!
