Blower Motor Replacement

Post by kimokalihi »

I think there's a dead mouse in my heating system. It sounds like there's something in the blower motor and it smells rancid. Smells like rat piss and decaying flesh. Makes me want to vomit and I can't even use my heater or defrost it's so bad. I don't know how the hell it got in there but I have no gauge illuminations either so I think that bastard may have been living in my car and chewing the wiring.

My question is, does the dash have to come out to pull the blower motor box out and inspect it to see why it's vibrating and making so much noise and locate the source of that smell.

Anybody got a how to or pictures or the process? I'm not looking forward to it but it has to be done.

you do have to pull the dash to pull the blower motor bow... however you do not have to pull the dash to pull the motor itself. the motor itself is only held in by 3 screws.

to get the dash out there are 3 bolts on top next to the vents and in between, one bolt by the hood release, one by the bottom of your glove box, you have to disconnect the hvac cable behind your radio on the passenger (Looks like a bike brake line) and then your center console has to come out to remove the last 2-3 bolts underneath your ashtray (on each side)

Yeah, I'd just remove the glove box and then remove the three screws holding the blower motor into the housing. If you have something nasty in there, you should be able to see it.

Blower motor comes out quite easily with the glovebox and that brace removed. There was something nasty in there...

Somewhere in all that shit is a family of mice. I removed 5 or 6 of them from that mess and from inside the condenser box. The largest one already had a team of maggots eating it. At this point I was gagging and nearly dry heaving. No joke. So I put on a mask and sprayed down the mice with brake cleaner to kill the maggots. It's making me sick just thinking about them. I had a headache from the smell of those mice.
