Hey all, I stumbled across the forums last night in a mad searching session for information about the first generation Subaru Legacies.

I just sold my Audi 100CSQ and have been looking around for a Legacy in the Seattle area. Headed up to Lynnwood (for you WA folks who know where that is) and am looking at a gorgeous 1991 L wagon. Needs a little TLC, but dangit, she's beautiful.

Have a buddy who has a 1993 L wagon as well as an '05 STi and he's helped me fall back in love with the Subies. Then again, so many folks up here in WA state love these cars!

I wanted to say thank you all for the forums, after reading the suspension threads last night, I realize there is a ton of information available and people are both knowledgeable AND friendly! Thanks so much to everyone here for making a forum and having a community that makes people who don't even own a Subie yet fall even further in love with them!

(p.s. I'll post pics of the wagon if I pick it up this morning. For $1250 it almost isn't worth NOT giving a good home)

I dove in today and bought a 91 L wagon. 5 speed and a little rough around the edges, but I definitely won't complain for $1200 USD.

Did the basics when I was on the way home. Full oil change, worked the headlights some (they're not foggy anymore!) and cleaned up the engine bay.

Can't wait to get started and already have some parts that are going to eventually make their way onto the rally wagon that I've inherited from local friends.

Very clean looking!

Welcome aboard. I found the sight myself while I was researching Subarus. I was initially looking at Imprezas when I found this sight and realized that the Legacys have Identical running gear and where easily half the cost. So I bought my First Legacy, a Sandstone brown 1991 Legacy LS Witch I dubbed "The Lemming". A year and a half later I bought my SS. My first turbo car and now the love of my life. Three years later and she is still with me and I still love driving her.

This sight is a virtual hotbed of information on the first generation Legacys and chock full of people in the know and a calm mature setting.

This sight has helped me in more ways than I can count. I hope you find it as welcoming and informative as I have.

Nice wagon! That's a hell of a deal—like the price of decent bicycle.

Damn those wheel covers have to go! They're slightly snazzier than the OEM ones, but the fact that I can use the word "snazzy" to describe them says it all. Not that I think you're going to keep them, but that's a red version of the dark blue one I have and it looks so odd to me now seeing one with the original wheels.

So, is this car going to be the rally wagon or do you have a second one?

Yeah, I'm trying to find something to replace the wheels, but it seems that people want an arm and a leg for '04 WRX wheels. I might pull off the wheel covers and rock the steelies for a while.

I'm not sure if I really want to rally out the wagon, but I am hoping to have someone local build a small push guard and put some Hella 600s (I think those are the thin 6" lights) for a bit better vision. These headlights are awful even after being polished up. That being said, I stumbled upon some '06 WRX wagon springs, which if I'm correct from the huge suspension thread, will work out well for me.

Hoping to get them on soon, but the need for some '02-'04 WRX struts and the few other pieces will drop the car a little bit. This is all assuming I can get back into work soon, the job market here in the Seattle area is lacking to say the least.

I'll be posting up some pics soon. I'm unsure if I want to create a build thread since I'm not sure I am doing anything too crazy with the car. I'm definitely taking pics along the way. Recharged the AC yesterday, so I'm enjoying some cold air in the summer heat.

Forester 5-spokes are likely cheaper and they're also lighter weight. I have them on mine, and they look good, too. I had a set of Hella 500s on the top of my bumper and they were great. I'm currently making a better mounting for them while I restore the car. Not the best for aerodynamics, but it's the way the car looks in my books, so I'm going to back to them in spite of not needing them as much with the Hella 90mm projector headlights.

Good luck with the job! I've been there and it sure sucks. I know a lot of people who seem to have a blast on unemployment, but I just remember being broke and feeling like a degenerate. Maybe I shouldn't be so damn responsible. These cars are pretty fun to drive with a few cheap mods, so it's no real sacrifice to keep them mostly stock. More reliable that way, too. Mine's been a tank (that I trust more than my Mazda 3), which is why I'm restoring it, and all I did was swap the steering wheel (13" Grant from previous car + new adaptor—$20), shift knob (round wood furniture knob from Home Depot—>$2), and wheels ($125/ea when I got the Foresters, but I paid too much. I had a set of 15's earlier that came with tires from Tirerack for $700 total).
