Soon to be owner of a '94 legacy touring wagon
Hi all! We are purchasing this: http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/ctd/1917059431.html and I would like your 2 cents. A bit of history. We have owned a 2003 wrx sedan and wagon, 2009 STi, 1993 legacy L fwd and a 1991 legacy lsi with an ej22t swap. Due to hard financial times the STi was sold and my DD is the '93 legacy and the '91 swapped is for sale . I am wondering what to watch out for and any other opinions from those that have been there and done that. I test drove the car a couple days ago and it is in great shape. Immaculate inside with a bit of wear on the usual spot of the drivers seat bolster. It has been re-painted from white to green several years ago, but those with subies know that aftermarket paint is a blessing
The recent safety/mechanic check showed everything in good shape but it was recommended to do the water pump soon. Advice please? Thanks!

Looks like a nice car. I like the color!
I would suggest the routine maintenance stuff, water pump, timing belt, checking/replacing oil seals.

Nice car - leather and only 116K.
Double-check the Auto/AWD...find a parking lot and do circles/figure 8's looking for torque-bind - sounds like you should be familiar w/it due to your Subaru history.
Make sure there are no weird noises when it shifts and no delay when putting into gear - D, 2,3, etc.
The transmissions are fine if maintained, but too often neglected.
The knock sensor was an issue - cracked - <'95.
Check the sun roof...they seem to leak over time due to the drains getting plugged, and not easy to clean.
Good luck,
TD

Mmmm nice!
I'm going to add, look out for hard/brittle wiring and hoses in the engine compartment, especially near the turbo. That can be a real headache when you're fiddling around under the hood.

Well, picked her up yesterday. She sure is a creampuff! In amazing condition for 16 years old. Runs strong for all of 170hp
. Just have to do some serious mod educating now. I am used to modding newer cars so this is a new game for me. Thinking wrx springs, GR2's, TBE, Tmic, mbc, walbro soon. Will wrx springs lower it or change the stance at all? I like how it sits now, especially with 02 wrx wheels on it. I would like to button it down handling wise though. A little floaty right now. Advice?

Re: Soon to be owner of a '94 legacy touring wagon
I tried wrx springs its EXACTLY the same. Try just getting GR2's and sways and that helps greatly. If you want to car to sit slightly lower try H & R springs. I bought a set I hear good things. I am currently running GR2's and so far so good.

Gr2's it is! I like the stance right now. Don't want it dumped since it will see snow and gravel roads frequently
