Auto to 5spds swap cluster issue.

Post by zagarus »

Hey everyone,

I'm about to do a 5spd swap in my 1992 legacy SS and the first thing I figured I would swap over to just to see if it worked was the 5spd cluster. It works fine but the only thing that isn't is the trunk open indicator light. It is on whenever the lights are off. As soon as I put the parking lights or headlights on the indicator goes out. My guess there is something wired slightly different in the 5spd cluster then there is in the auto cluster. Anyone come across this issue as well?

You need to keep your original cluster due to the added plugs on top that come with the auto tranny. You just need to put the blank out plate in the center that covers over the PRND stuff. And pull those bulbs.

I found this out just like you did. Weird stuff happens because the cluster wiring is different due to the added plugs.

Yeah, just leave the original cluster. I still have my auto cluster. No issues. As mentioned in my swap write-up you need to deal with the neutral switch wiring that's differently, but it works fine.
