uppipe innards??

Post by gijonas »

Anyone ever peeked into a WRX uppipe?? WTF if that horribly restrictive looking screen BS in there?.Does anyone gut this crap out or is it less of a prob than it looks?

It's a catalytic converter.

Some do gut them....it doesn't leave things the best for flow, but people do it.

Oh right.I guess i knew that at one point....hmm what to do.I cant imagine gutting being worse off but perhaps. Are there any limitations to this part? at what point do people find its necessary to upgrade?

Not sure I can't answer that last part as I'm not sure what WRX owners typically do, but most tend to dump the catted up-pipe for a non-catted up-pipe. The stock turbo legacy up-pipe does not have a cat and is the same as the STi's up-pipe.

gutting it is a pain in the ASS.

worth the $50 to pick one up off ebay rather than spend the time to gut it.

I ended up fabbing my own hybrid piece combining the stock and the catted one TIGed together.Pretty much like the stock unit but the flex point is now at the bottom end rather than up top.
