AEM FIC install
Disclaimer:
This project is not easy! You need to know how to read ecu schematics, solder, trouble shoot if you mess up, and generally know how to wire in a piggyback ecu system into your car.
This product is a piggy back ecu system so it runs off your factory ecu heavily. So its NOT perfect. You can change enough stuff to unlock a lot of power from all your mods. An example of what you can do. You install some new injectors into your car. You need to calibrate them. With the FIC you can simply scale them back down to the factory size making the ecu think they are stock when really the are double the size.
The install of the FIC will be done on my 1993 Subaru Legacy Turbo Automatic with a TBE. The car is stock other than the TBE.
Things you can alter in a short list:
Injectors
TPS
Map
MAF
Ignition
O2 Narrow and wide
UEGO
gauge
And much other random things.
So now for the install. Things your will need.
AEM FIC
Patch harness
Solder
Shrink tubing
Zip ties
2 sided tape
10mm Socket with a ratchet
Phillips screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver
Diagrams
Time
Hand to eye skills
Places to find some stuff.

A patch harness

You will need a 90-94 EJ20G harness. Trust me it works
Your diagrams for wiring are very easy to find.
Legacy ECU pinouts.

Under the “ BUY NOW” you find the install PDF file. Aswell you get a paper copy when you buy it.
Now with all this near meaningless info you can make a custom one off harness for your car.
I would suggest you make small adaption to your harness and test as you go along for easier trouble shooting.
For your best pictures you will want to check out SLODRIVE's build journal. He has a sort of step by step of what he did with the same product. Im just making a kinda general install gear for the 90-94 legacy's
Now once you have made your kick ass harness you will need to stick it in your car.
Your cars ECU is a B**** to remove i really did hate this part.
For some help i provide you with this link:
http://www.revtronix.com/node/56
LOL Revtronix! That stuff!! Its a good tutorial on Ecu removal so download it.
Im going to some it up tho for you.
Under the drivers side dash is the Ecu. You will need to take off the plastic panel under the steering column. Once that is done you will see two nuts on a metal bracket kinda tucked away. Undo them. By now if you didn’t figure out that its easier to pull the ecu out from the clutches of the dash you should NOT be this far!! So you basically you will be pushing and pulling the ecu out until you can easily pull the four ecu connectors out. Once you have your four connectors out you can install your custom patch harness in between the ecu and factory harness.
Congratulations you have just installed a AEM FIC in your Legacy!
But it still continues!! Haha you thought it was that easy!
Now once you have the FIC installed your thinking lets start it up!!
NO!
You don’t have a tune on the FIC box.
You will need to install the provided software to your laptop.
Install it run it.
With the program running plug the provided usb cable into the fic and your laptop.
You might need to get a driver up date for your computer for it to connect properly to your laptop. I dunno i sure did.
So once your connected on the FIC program hit the “file” tad
The hit “Upload cal only”
Pick the Bas cal file.
It will take a second literally.
Now with all that carp out of the way. You can start your car.
Remember this is for a STOCK car!!!! Which means if you followed the default info your car will start just the same as it did without the box!
So now with the box installed you can tune your stuff you intercepted or tapped.... Bam
So im getting tired of typing now. Here is some side notes.
NOTES:
Im NOT giving you the perfect soldering instructions because what would you learn out of this!
Its not easy on a scale of 1-10 i would give it a 7.5-8
If you mess up some how DONT do something else fix your mess up!
If you wire in your injectors backwards which i did LOL you car will NOT chuck a code it ill just not start and will just crank
Make sure your connections are all good and tight before your install it. You dont want a short or a fire!
Here is some youtube links that will help aswell for the tuning aspect and program usage.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu_GT5aCxwg
Tuning will be in another post.
Since my install i have done NO tuning! So i really dont know how to tune that much. Aswell its winter and i dont want to swap injectors and turbos in the snow.
I hope this help out someone about something! LOL
I would like to thank SLODRIVE for his help in the ordeal. He was the 1st of my knowledge to do this. I just kinda filled in some gaps to make it work for my appliaction and make it easier for others... Maybe.
Aswell i will post some vids and pictures in a week or so.
Thanks SLODRIVE
