What parts are you guys looking to buy.

Post by Dave C »

Just out of curiosity, i was wondering what kind of upgrade parts you
guys are interested in buying.

I'm trying to get a line on Tanabe brand Coil-overs that would fit
our cars. I'm not sure, but i'm pretty confident that they'd be
available at an affordable price and weigh in very close to TEIN as
far as price is concerned.

I still want to get a true cold-air intake made for the turbo, but
i'm not sure if it would be worth the effort to try to get such a kit
assembled. If you've seen the Cobb Tuning intake, with the inline
PRM filter, then you know just about exactly what i want. Something
that's relatively simple, doesn't have a huge filter, and that draws
air from the fender.

An Intercooler is the one big thing that was left out of the turbos,
and what a PITA it is to hunt them down. The original 95-96 WRX are
hard to find and you're lucky to get a new one bare for less than
$500. Egad.

So, what do you plan on upgrading on your car in the near future?

WELL.. From a non-turbo perspective...

I'm going to be making my own aluminum in-fender cold air box with a kind-of
ram-air design to it (air will come in from where the blinker is at), going
to upgrading my struts to the version 5 struts, and trying to find a way to
rewire the blinkers up into my posing lights. A 2 inch custom exhaust is in
the works, as well as a support bar for low-down behind the drivers seat.
(let me know if you guys are interested, and i'll price out making some more
in the somewhat near future) 16" GT rims are in the dream phase right now.

So to answer your question: what am i looking to buy? I'm looking to by 4
struts, a large sheet of aluminum, 2 3-plug bulbs, a lot of 2" piping, and a
set of GT rims with tyres. =)

On another note, i recently got 23 mpg city driving. WOO HOO! Freeway
driving is getting close to 28 and a half. 30 is the goal.

I am going towards handling right now due to the fact
that my struts are really begining to show some signs
of age. I am looking at KYB AGX and Eibach springs
(perhaps new bushings too... anyone know if the STi
bushings fit our cars?) but if the Tanabe are going to
be available soon at a reasonable price I perhaps
would want in on something along those lines. As far
as engine or other performance mods go I am eventually
planning on an intercooler, AVC-r, exhaust (if I ever
find a place that will bend one for me) and the list
goes on... but those are my major plans for the
spring/summer when I start working more.

Hey Jay, go to teague's auto, he's got whitline poly bushings, they are good price, I'm sure they're goin to be cheaper than the sti ones.

As far as me...non-turbo legacy. I am currently (this week) fabricating a cold air intake box around my intake. I'm goin to try and run some sort of ducting to the front of the car. that's the realistic stuff now.

Future (dream wishes) Swap 5spd in for auto, and convert to AWD, 2" exhaust, some sort of lowering springs, possibly new struts, & or sway bars, (& strut brace), probalby whiteline poly bushings, steel braided brake lines, 4-pot calipers and larger rotors up front....on and on.....notice how I put future (DREAM WISHES) Most of this stuff won't happen...but I can dream :)

What parts are you guys looking to buy.

Post by Rod Grosvenor »

Hello from No. Az. (ROD)-Jason`s note about a 2.25 custom exhaust is right on the mark-I added that to my Borla headers & the difference is significant. Also consider: upgrading to the 470+ volt RS coil pack, better wires & if you are bucks-up, an MSD Dis-2 unit. I have one due in April. I have the underdrive pulley, K&N filter in the stock airbox with the water separator removed (it`s under the pass side fender liner-easy to remove). A big difference there. Being that mine`s an NA motor, next realistic upgrade would be head & cam work-expensive, but if I want power that`s the next move. Just my 3 cents-ME

What parts are you guys looking to buy.

Hi Rod,
I was told by Cobb Tuning that if we want better flow in the heads, get rid
of the stock 2.2 head and bolt on a 2.5rs head. This is apparently a huge
improvement in air flow. Probably cheaper then port and polishing the heads.
I will bet that with all the information legacy owners on this list have, we
could easily build a 300hp reliable motor.

What parts are you guys looking to buy.

Post by Rod Grosvenor »

Mark-Iknow you`re right about the heads (the 2.5 heads OUTFLOW the LS-1 heads on the Corvette-STOCK!) My biggest problem would be replacing my $450 Borlas as the 2.2 & 2.5 heads are different. As I look @ my depleting bank account, I`ll have to do some serios thinking. Bye for now-ROD (you know where)
