lower control arm bushings

Post by anhipps »

I need to replace the large bushings on the lower control arms. This is on a 2WD '90 Legacy. I have searched for post on this topic and have read quite a few. From what I have read, removing the old bushing is somewhat of a chore, but it's the pressing the new bushing in thats difficult. I have used Energy Suspension bushings on another vehicle and they reused some of the metal parts and just pushed in by hand.

Does anybody know if the Energy Suspension Kit reuses the metal parts on the Subarus or is it a full press in bushing. What company sells a bushing kits that doesn't require a press and cost is reasonable. I looked at the Prothane kit, but it doesn't account for the tapered end of the bushing shaft.

Thanks for whatever input you may be able to provide.

Well, unless someone convinces me not to, I think I am going to get either the Prothane or Energy Suspension kit and use the oem sleeves with a spacer. I think this may be an inexpensive route.

Any preference or reasons to choose one of these products over the other? I have used Energy Suspension products on a truck and they seem to be doing well, I don't know anything about the Prothane except that they are a little less expensive.

Any input would be appreciated.

You will likely destroy the old bushings when removing them. Which isn't that big a deal. The energy suspension stuff should just push in and be fine to install. Replacing it with a subaru metal collared bushing is not fun.
