Perfect power 6

hey guys, for all you pp6 owners out there, im having alittle bit of confusion with the AUXOUT wire(orange). doing some reading, ive figured that the wire will run 100ma. where do you get a relay rated that small? I cant find any information on this wire. i got the unit wired in and running really well. very pleased with it. if anyone has any input on this or even an example of how you have it wired up for something please share.

launch control. ill put up a schematic i just need that wire to turn off/on a relay cant seem to find a relay though

I don't recall how the perfect power is setup, but usually you feed 12v to the switching in the ECU so that current is "sink" into the transistors. They have a much larger capacity to sink power than source it.

With that being said, I don't really see any issue with running a standard relay via sinking the source though that switch.

According to this site a standard bosch type relay draws about .160 amps.
In a DC relay coil, the coil resistance determines the current flow through the coil. The current draw by the coil of a bosch relay is ~0.160 amps (~75 ohm coil).

I looked through the developers manual, which I'm assuming is where you found the info regarding the max output being 100mA.

An aside, if others don't have the info, here's the developer's manual.

Despite that being an output, I'm not sure if you can change the output's characteristics, ie cause it to go low or high. According to the manual, it seems to indicate that the aux output will go "low" when RPM is higher than the limit. Diagram from the manual is below.

This seems to indicate that the PP is "sinking" the power, so I'm a little confused about it's comment regarding 100mA max. It doesn't really make much sense. Plus diagram is confusing.

This is what I would likely do based on the info in that manual indicating the aux out pin goes "low" when the trigger is activated.

hey josh i appreciate your help. i got the 100ma info from one of the pp6 manuals which you have posted. i contacted perfect power and told me the orange is a swithed ground. which your diagram shows. but here is what i was thinking. im not sure its gonna work but the concept makes sense.

as shown, the 12v source is switched by the clutch which is then fed into a relay which will cut spark when rpm's exceed the setpoint)

example: your sitting in your car with clutch in, enabling the 12v source. you rev up to about 4k. cuts spark, revs goes back down, switch resets. once the clutch is released it disables the 12 volt source. making the ignition cut relay inactive. works like a two step kinda

tell me what you think.. problems? modifications? i wasnt to sure if cutting the ignitor ground would do the trick so some input on that would be good.

In theory the setup sounds alright, but I'm not sure how it's going to react in real life. Actual launch control on the ECU cuts spark at the micro or milisecond level to maintain a set RPM. I just don't think this mechanical circuit is going to be able to respond quick enough. So you will end up with a surging idle affect, and personally I don't think that's going to help you launch any better than just holding the throttle to maintain a certain rpm.

If you're dead set on having launch control, I'd suggest an external ignition controller/setup. I just don't think the PP is going to give you the desired results.

i tested this today without the clutch switch, seemed to work pretty good. gonna test out the clutch switch tomorrow and see how it works. if not i guess i created an adjustable rev limiter aha

sorry to thread jack, but what is two step? i've heard of it before some years ago (just that one time) and then just read it here.....

no worries. the thread wasnt going anywhere. but two step just means two stage. 1st stage is your launch, usually at like 3500-5000 rpm what ever ur preference is. then the 2nd stage is the normal rev limiter. the 2nd step can be activated via timer, brake switch, clutch switch, etc they can get pretty fancy. its just a form of launch control
